230000 sounds good. I just bought one 175000 miles on it and am afraid if its gonna run for a few more thousands miles till I save for a newer car
did you find out if the process is similar on a 99?
Yes
Is it the star headed bolt on the tensioner?
Ok So before you watch all these videos and decide the job is to labor intensive and you hire someone I’ll tell you all to leave the power steering pump and altenator bracket alone just remove the one screw bolt of the tensioner and one pulley and the water pump will be clear as day and ready to remove.
i have antifreeze leaking from my water pump…does that mean i have to replace the water, gasket and the brackets?
so before getting to the water pump, can you explain exactly what needs to come off? I noticed in video 3 or 4, you have taken off quite a bit. Also, the Taurus I’m working on is a 1999. Do you know if the process is similar?
h s a c shrater change
Just a suggestion for anyone doing this, after you bolt the new pump on fill it with water or coolant to make sure you gasket is sealed and there are no gap leaks. The last thing you want is to put all the parts back on and find you are leaking because your gasket isn’t seated right or a piece of old gasket you missed scraping off is creating a gap leak.
I’m about to replace my water pump tomorrow (98 Ford Taurus). Thanks for the video sir.
Thanks for the video. I had the same problem. It was easy to fix just took time.
saul good. it helped enough. thanks.
@jeremiahdoering; Well, since it was filmed six months ago, I don’t remember why I left part of it out. I think that might have been when the batteries died and had to recharge. I think that might have been the reason.
why did you skip over a whole part of the removal? just wondering.
You’re welcome. I hope I covered the whole thing and didn’t leave out anything vital.
Thank you for uploading this helpful 5 part video set. I plan to replace my water pump soon and will use this as a reference.
Ha, I can’t multiply…I mean wish it were for the 24V Duratec 3.0L instead of the 12V Vulcan 3.0L…
Dang, I wish this video were for the Duratec 32V DOHC 3.0L instead of the16V Vulcan. Good work, btw…. 🙂
dude that water in the background makes me want to pee.
