Well done. On our Ford Windstar with the same knuckle/pinch bolt
arrangement, I just whacked the knuckle with a 6 lb sledge hammer (aka the
“BFH”) about 7-8 times and it came right off. It is in there pretty
tightly just as you indicated. To reinstall, I tapped the knuckle back up
from the bottom with the same device.

Thanks for the detailed video. I used it to replace the tensioner struts on
my Taurus. I would have been completely lost without your video.

Ne;txt time soak the cinch with PB Blaster and then take a large pry bar
and open up the distance on the back part where you removed the bolt. If
that doesn’t work then put heat from a propane torch on the pinch bolt
holder and go back to beating on it. I usually use a 9 lb hammer with the
block of wood or if you have a padded dead blow hammer then have at it. Do
steps 1, 2, and 3 until it has been released. Thanks for good work on video.

Very good video, I am just starting my daughters 1997 Taurus replacing both
rear struts. This will make it a little easier to get the job done. Good job

this is some pretty ridiculous shit. I have shocks on the back of my 07
elantra and it’s literally 2 bolts on the upper mounting plate (accessible
easily from the wheel well) and the lower bolt. it’s like 5 minutes. what
the f, ford.

A shock and a strut are very different

Excellent instructions! I’m working on a similar project (2004 Taurus SE)
that involves the same rear strut assembly. Had a lot of trouble
reinserting the pinch bolt. Looks like alignment of the spindle is
critical. Thanks for your help.

David Orr says:
