Replacing LVDS connector on A1286 Unibody Macbook Pro with Weller WMP65.

I know there are people out there who can do this job 10x better than I do, but since none of them have uploaded a howto video to youtube, you’re stuck with …

Good evening, Louis, are Mauro. We have a workshop in Italy Repair of
computers and cell phones. I’ve seen many of your video and I must say they
are very interesting and useful. You’re very good and accurate. We present
a problem on a MacBook Pro A1286 with logic board 820-2532-A. Practically
the LCD screen does not backlit. I tried to change the LCD, LCD flat cable
but unfortunately the problem persists. At this point the problem depends
on some component of the logic board. Can you tell me what component that
handles the backlight in the logic board?
Thank you very much for your help.
Regards.
Mauro

I got a logic board with two traces were gone with the wind. It is macbook
pro 13″ that my 2 years old son spilled water on it. I hope I could fix it
with what ever tool I have and I don’t have the desoldering gun but hot air
station is on hand.
Can you point me the good way how it could be done correctly?

What kind is the microscope? Thanks

Hi Louis, I know your busy, i have an 85W magsafe adapter that has started
going low voltage but sometimes works. I exposed the wires before the
connector and sometimes by giving it a quick short it jumps into life, it
seems to works better when warm so i’m thinking there is a bad cap or caps
in the psu. Any ideas as where to start looking? Have you come across
similar issues? Thanks.
James

Luis Marquez says:

Hey Louis. It’s me again. You probably remember me as the person that types
too much. I have an issue that I’d like to share with you. I have an iMac
27 inch (late 2009 i7) that I purchased at a low price. Everything works
perfectly except for one problem, the problem being the LVDS on the logic
board is missing 8 ‘pads’, from what I’ve learned they’re called. I’m in
the learning stage of soldering and would like to know if there’s any way
to fix it, and how, or if I will need a new and expensive board entirely. I
ordered the brand new component that needs to be soldered onto the board,
due to the previous one getting ripped off from the previous owner opening
the LCD too fast. What I would appreciate to be clarified is, if the LVDS
is useless due to it missing pads, if I can somehow repair the damage, and
why pads are important. Thanks.

I did and it is great. There is no power on the fuses you point out either.
I am going to do it as a new year day job and hopefully I don’t fuck it up.
What is the best advise on water damaged mac books? Testing, diagnostics
and fixes as step by step video will be awesome. (I wish I could work and
talk like you at the same time)

Retsu Ichijouji says:

Have you ever tried drag soldering technique?

James Fisk says:

Louis,

The life lessons you dispense are as invaluable as the electronics
instruction.

I have a few medical grade, stainless 45° bend syringe tips. I would be
happy to throw them in an envelope and mail them to you if they would be
useful for your flux syringe.

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

Nice!

IT-Master says:

before desoldering connector use flux and resolder pins with fresh solder.
even leave bridges. fresh solder melt under lowerst temp.

And learn to use “drag soldering” technique

thanks to the video got it off clean as hell

Tech Assistant says:

Why don’t you use solder paste ? and also those thin nozzle flux/paste
dispenser is only 5 bucks on eBay

Michael Hufford says:

VERY good video, I have done this before with solder paste and hot air and
thank you for the great great videos keep the good work up.

Why worry what people think? It works and looks good, that should be all
that matters..

cpufixer1 says:

Try smaller braid wire.
Dumb question, how do you run furmark, it is windows program?
I know you said something about therm paste, but cant find it again, what
do you use? Some bad reviews on tuniq tx-4.
