how did you know the orientation of the display"
multi segment display – so no pixels involved – did you not try to resolder all the joints first – it may have just been a dry solder joint from age – the display might have been ok? that aside great content
Oh Jeez…I was holding my breath when you test-fired the display. I was hoping the LED display wasn't soldered in upside down. I'm sure it was directional. You have to make those things idiot-proof so the average knuckle-dragging tech could do it. Wait….they'd just replace the whole module and charge thousands.
