Scotty, so I have a Celica 86, i accidently floored the clutch, but it
kinda fixed itself, it only starts slipping in 4th gear, if I rev it hard,
other than that it’s still good right?

Marcus Adams says:

A while back I was trying to separate the engine/transmission on my 1999
Dodge Dakota (5 speed manual transmission, transmission is the AX-15
tranny) since I was replacing the clutch master/slave cylinder anyway
because I wanted to inspect the clutch disc and other components just for
my own learning experience since I’d never looked at them myself. I
removed the drive shaft, removed the bolts on the back of the transmission
that held it to the cross member, removed all of the bolts holding the
engine and transmission together and I couldn’t get them to separate.
There was a thin metal sheet with cut-outs for various parts that fell out
when I removed the last two top bolts (I had to remove the gearshift and
reach in from the top with a 24 inch extension and a few swivels to reach
them). I even removed the starter, but I could not get them to separate,
not even a little at the bottom when I got all of those bolts out.

If they’re baked together, is there a safe way to knock them apart without
causing damage?

phatrides222000 says:

being the pilot bearing is a bitch. How do you get the old one out?

Kurtis Snyder says:

My clutch in my 3000gt either slips or doesn’t full engage when i change
gears in high rpms (5-6 thousand rpms) and i don’t know if I should try
adjusting the it at the pedal or not because it’s at the factory specs it
also had a new clutch 5000 miles ago

Billy H. says:

Sometimes when I press my clutch in it makes a VERY loud clunk that you
feel in the car, then I try to shift and it makes the same loud clunk also
when i let off the clutch it does the same and it is hard to shift or
sometimes wont shift at all it will do this for a few more shifts then it
goes away and it shifts like a dream what the heck is going on ? …Also
when it does this it will get stuck in a gear like i said, 99% of the time
its neutral if I kill the car then put it in gear then start it up its fine
for a while….I think the clutch is sticking when i press in the pedal
then quickly releases causing the loud clunk or bang…and i do mean LOUD.
Its not a hydraulic clutch its a antique car that Im trying to get up and
going any ideas would be awesome.

Ahmed Attar says:

That is a workshop job…not do it yourself work!!

TheReapersSon says:

Why does the Miata sound like that when it’s running?

Dylan anderson says:

videos, Im a first year mechanic my self and I enjoy watching your videos,
I watch them to see some new tip/tricks that I could use at work for
myself, Very enjoyable to watch unlike some other mechanics that have
youtube channels, Keep it up definitely be watching more to see what else I
can use at work.. What laws in america stops you from having a hoist? I
very fondly hate working on the ground

Chris Hale says:

I had my clutch master cylinder changed 3 months ago because it wouldn’t go
into gear, and the clutch pedal was getting stuck in the down position. I
just checked the clutch fluid and it is black again. I am able to get the
truck into gear but it is not smooth into first and sometimed second gear.
Any ideas on what is wrong? It is a 1993 Toyota T100.

Andrey Ivanov says:

Duuude, Your videos are AWESOME! I find them very interesting especially
with all the time you use to film the process. Super! 🙂 This is the fifth
random video I’m seeing and every single one is amazing; with all the tips
and honest ideas you give. 10/10* Btw, you look alike with the German
singer “Fancy”…

Vanq78 says:

Great video, Scotty! You make it look easy, even though I am sure it is a
total pain in the rear to do. Always entertaining and informative.

Ilikecereal tbh says:

I’m hearing odd front suspension noises on my 2002 Nissan Altima, I have
replaced struts, tie rod ends, checked ball-joints sway bar linkages and
engine mounts and still can’t find the problem. It doesn’t make the
clunking noise over every bump it happens over big bumps or two bumps one
right after the other i’m at a loss and have no idea what it could be.

Hmoob Vaaj says:

Wow evrthing took about 4mins lol

Raul Medina says:

i just love it when he comes out the pick up

ExplaningTiffeny says:

Lmao i hate the fact that he makes it look so easy.

Nathaly Salazar says:

In 1st gear my truck rides good but after that when I hit the gas my rpm
goes up but my speed goes up slowly. Also the gear doesnt engage till my
foot is ALL the way off the clutch. Does this mean clutch is bad or does
the linkage just need adjusted

George PS Mouyios says:

A few years back my clutch blew and needed to get it fixed for work. Didn’t
have another car and needed it fixed within few days. I don’t have friends
that can help out with this and didn’t want to take car apart. Took to
local shop and spent the money to fix it at the time. Glad I did because
other things were wrong with it. Going back if I can take the time off I’d
replace it myself. I do love learning and doing stuff like this myself.

TheOddBrother says:

Hey scotty im thinking about doing this on my car but im not sure if this
is the problem. The other day i was driving and i accidentally redlined it
and forgot to shift for about a second. now whenever i revv it past the
halfway mark it makes an odd noise. Do you know what the problem is?

jason johnson says:

I’m about to tackle this project on Saturday, is it something two people
with limited car knowledge can handle? Is the alignment tool a have to have
item? Also I already have a new clutch plate that the previous owner gave
me should it be a problem if i just replace that?

Mark Olea says:

Hi Scotty, I have my clutch replaced, clutch slave, and had the flywheel
resurfaced. I was thinking it was just the clutch when I was grinding in
1st gear. I am now grinding 1st and 2nd, but it doesn’t grind if i wait a
second to put it in gear. What would be the cause of that?

Rodrigo Cardoso says:

What about torque specs?

mac mckee says:

I know there were no grooves on the flywheel, but what about glaze? If the
friction disc looks that bad then you know the flywheel has a hell of a lot
of glaze on it. As big of a pain in the ass as that job is, why wouldn’t
you go ahead and take care of it?

Tambo74 says:

You made that look very very very very very….. easy.
there is no way i would attempt this on my own with no experience

splewy says:

Yeah, there should be a disclaimer that this pretty much only applies to
rear wheel drive cars.

Changing the clutch on most transverse engine (front wheel drive) cars is
near impossible to do by yourself at home. You typically need a top engine
support brace, and a shop lift is pretty much required since you have to
drop the whole front sub-frame to get the trans out.

Chanse Ormon says:

Stick Shift NO BUENO!!!!

Jose Martinez says:

Hey scotty, Any realiable website where i can buy a whole kit for the
clutch??
Please, i need to get one for my honda civic lx.

MacLVD says:

Scooty, my clutch is only40k old and is slipping due to transmission oil
contamination. I am planning in fixing the transmission imput shaft seal
and try to clean the clutch since is not old. what cleaning method and
agent would you recommend to remove the oil from the clutch?
Thank you Scotty, you are the man!

Lionel Davis says:

Can you make a video on how to bleed your clutch slave cylinder?

albert castro says:

nice video tutorial… long live man… mabuhay ka !!!!

vincent mc dowell says:

scotty my truck firewall need to be reinforce do you have any idea

dpillay009 says:

Hey Scotty, the clutch on my celica only slips in third gear, its
completely fine in all other gears. Do you think I should get it replaced?

danishnajfi says:

Thank you Scotty for sharing your knowledge and spirit, keep it up brother,
you are worth your weight in gold …. wishing you the best in life, im
your biggest fan.

Bicycle Yoda says:

I see you replaced the disc and throwout bearing, why not also do the
pressure plate as well?? Its such a big job that to me its worth it.

Scott Stick says:

Scotty….96 Toyota Avalon XL (6 cyl)….. Trying to understand how to
correctly check the trans fluid level. On the dipstick it has a Hot and a
Cold region (each region is bordered by notches in the dipstick), with a
separate area in between the two regions. My understanding is that when the
car is at normal operating temperature, the fluid should be within the Hot
region. Is this correct?

flurryblizzard says:

I need a RWD car.
My Golf GTI needs a more envolving process just to replace the clutch
plate.

mohamed zalat says:

so dose the clutch need to be adjusted 2 weeks after putting in the new
one, and how is it adjusted. thanks

Elhaz Rune says:

Not to resurface a flywheel?! Bad idea! Thumbs down.

was that car knocking or was it an exhaust leak?

David O says:

Aboout how much time would it take for someone(myself) to replace the
clutch? whats a reasonable labor price for someone(shop) to replace the
clutch?

John Jones says:

I have a 1999 Acura CL 3.0 with 145000 miles with perfect running engine.
I’m the original owner with good oil change and maintenance. Problem is
the transmission started slipping, a clunk with hard shift. It jerks and
I’m afraid to drive on it now. There was an error code (I misplaced it
after writing it down) that directed me to check for the solenoids.
However, I check all the solenoids (Ohms), and they are good according to
spec from the service manual. I tried to put seafoam transmisision
cleaner, but the problem seems not going away. Is the transmission
damaged? What should I do? Replace the transmission? Is it cost
effective (about $3000)? Thank you for your help as always. (sorry, I
should have post this question in your “Fixing A Transmission That Slips
And Clunks” video).

nigelleitzell says:

Scotty, my clutch started slipping a few months back on my 3g eclipse. I’m
not sure if it’s a bad clutch plate or possibly oil’s leaking in somewhere
onto the clutch plate. Is there any way to tell before taking it apart?
Someone told me it’s not possible for engine oil to be leaking onto the
plate, and that only transmission fluid can.. is that true?

HoonsOfWollongong says:

Ive changed clutches like this and had the box off again within six moths
for a new rear main seal. From now on I machine the fly wheel and change
that seal.

anarchisttomato says:

Strewth, I’ll gladly pay for someone else to do all that!

micLuc14 says:

Mr. Scotty, this is definitely not one of the jobs I should try myself!!!!
