how fast was he going down mullsane
BTW – I just read a trap speed of 177 mph for this car, on The Mulsanne,
back in The Day… So my guesstimate was pretty close.. That is 1 mph
faster than the trap speed for the 1966 Porsche 906 Carrera Six “batmobile”
there… I never saw a speed for the 1967 906 “LH” long tail.. The wider
tires of 1967 created more drag. Not something this Dino had to worry
about.. The Dino and the 906 are amazingly similar in profiles… Take a
look, sometime… J.C.
This is Petrol-head porn! Forget F1, this sound is amazing
I don’t think so, at that time / era, the only Lola was a 1100cc Climax
powered car, which competed with Lotus 11’s…. you are no doubt talking
about the Lister-Jag….. which the 246 S blows by…. on HANDLING….. and
power to weight. J.C.
Lemans is an easy to learn road course, even with the Porsche GoKart course
and the bloody CHICANES which have emasculated the Mulsanne…..made the
place safe for “pay for drive” people of less than stellar talent…. Drive
the Neurburgring…..learn it well, then you can be King of all the road
racers….Buy a dp1 from D.P. and you might even break Stephan Bellof’s
6:15 lap record there….which has stood since 1982…his Memorial….
LUCK! jcarroll330P4@
Yes, 1958-1960 seasons. Hawthorne was World Champion for Ferrari in 1958,
by one point over Moss. The point was gained by having a fastest lap in one
of the races. The 1958 car had a deDion tube rear supension, transition
from drum brakes to disks also took place in this time frame. 1959 and 1960
cars had an early form of IRS. Car could under and oversteer in the same
corner! Rear engined Cooper-Climax 2.5 liter 4’s dominated last two
seasons, with Jack Brabham at the wheel. jcarroll330P4@
Thank you for posting this AWESOME video. It’s heartening to see Ferrari
race cars being used correctly! 🙂
thankyou for sharing, i have daydreamed about early ferrari sportscars
since i was a kid, i never thought ild see such an amazing and rare car
being driven how it was ment to be, just beautiful! and i think he passed a
daytona near the end forza ferrari!
wasn’t this the in origin F1 engine?
My GOD!! It’s good to do this when it’s 10F out….. Nice to see someone
who is not tippy toeing around in a car they don’t know on a course they
don’t know….. Be nice to the the 246 S up against a Tipo 61…. Depending
on the track.. Forza FERRARI J.C.
I must again thank you for putting this 256 S lap on YouTube. The car and
driver are magnificent, as were the mechanics, as the cars carbs are in
perfect tune, might as well be F.I. !! I had the good luck to get to help
tune an aging 250LM, outside of the town of Sebring, with my cousin, back
in “The Day” on the dint of us having tuned Alfa’s and FIAT’s with
Webers…. SWEET V-6 there!! HOT!! I bet this car would do well within the
1962 -1965 age group… jcarroll330P4@

the same. That is 1 mph faster than the trap speed for the 1966 Porsche 906

I can’t even put into words how good that sound was. Good to see it driven.
he’s not “amusing la gallery” !
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing.
Really smooth gear changes, very nice!
What a wonderful vid, thank you for posting! and what an evocative sound
that beauty makes, now that’s music!! I keep watching the vid over and
over,its intoxicating 😀
Holy crap! Great to see the beast is being used to the max. Get out of the
way. Cheers
Exactly 😉
170 mph, give or take about 5…… J.C.
what was the topspeed?
Fantastic to watch……just a pity its on the emasculated circuit that Le
Mans has become…….for pity’s sake, chicanes on Mulsanne!
che macchina
shocking – the shit your pants engine power and note that commendatore
Signor Ferrari himself promised his drivers. See the Phil Hill book for the
accuracy of that quote. Notice – this car did not top out on any
straightaway..was still accelerating! Cuirrent cars on this layout actually
top out 5 times..thanks to paddle shift, carbon discs.. but anyway an
incredible upload
Awesome sound…
The 1960 246 S had a slightly detuned Ferrari F-1 2.4 litre “Dino” V-6.
Published hp numbers vary. The 1962 246 SP was first rear engined Ferrari
sports racer, which was moderately successfull, evolving into the World
Beating, Le Mans winning 1963 250P with the 3.0 litre V-12 and a revamping
of the bodywork/aero package. The 1965 Dino166 S sports prototype was a new
car, presaging ’66 330 P3’s and ’67 330 P4’s bodywork, By 1968, this car
had grown back to 2.4 liters. jcarroll330P4@
damn you go man awsome put me in your will?
FUCK YEAH!!!!
That’s the oldest one in the book. I think I’d have to quote Fangio on that
one…
It is really a fantastic car, isn’t it.
Fantastic! It’s great to see that not all Ferrari’s are garage queens. They
were built to be driven!
OMG What a sexy sound!!!!!!
A million thanks!
I love the roar off of it!
It’s a classic race. Not everyone is out to dent their million-dollar
racecars for a show. There’s no sanctioning body out there giving anyone
cash for wins…
thank you!
