what did Chrysler/Dodge do to fix the problem in later years, i have a2007 Chrysler town and country and haven’t had a belt run off yet.

Danyil Underwood says:

No, the power brake runs off vacuum from ur intake manifold.

MrMitch779 says:

If your serpentine belt came off you wouldn’t lose power brakes, for those of you that mentioned it.

GatesAPA says:

jselliso – the solution kit was designed to work with the original smooth backside water pump pulley. Belt life will not be diminished – Install the components & drive with confidence.

I just got the gates kit a week ago and am hesitant to put it on. Although it comes with two new pulleys that are grooved, the water pump pulley still has a flat side. Will this damage the belt and make it wear faster?

Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I recently purchased a Town and Country mini van and had this same issue. I replaced the belt and pulleys with the Gates Solution kit and drove it yesterday in the rain with no problems, yet so far..Thanks again!!!

THATS FUNNY, This just happened to me the other day.

About a year ago I started having these issues. 2000 Caravan 3.0 Belt would come off whenever I drove through a puddle. I soon became an expert on putting it back on but also became very frustrated and pissed at Chrysler. This is a design error that should have been recalled. Did some research, found the gates solution. Problem solved. About an hour to put on the new idler. It is a bit of a pain but doeable.

pixkeyser says:

There has been recalls for defects that are far less dangerous. There has been none on this. I had my mechanic install the Gates kit. I have had no problems in 2 years. This problem has cost me over $300 plus the time, aggravation and stress. Has anyone heard of a class action suit?

pixkeyser says:

The belt came off 3 times in 9 months on my 2000 Grand Caravan. Twice in the rain and once in the snow. I did some research and found that this is a common problem. If Gates is manufacturing a fix for this, there must be a design flaw. Loosing your power steering, power brakes in wet or snowy weather is dangerous. Then your battery goes dead. Would you feel safe when driving in these conditions, knowing your belt could fly off at any time? There should have been a recall on this.
