Thank you! I was told to disassemble the windshield wiper assembly to reach the alternator and that it would take hours to do that. You saved me a lot of work. I had a little trouble sliding out the bottom of the alternator where the nut was but a couple of drops of oil took care of that. For the tension pulley I used a 15 mm wrench to pull the pulley down, and I added a homemade pipe sleeve to the wrench handle to make it easy.
Thanks for posting!!! My alternator went out a week after getting my new van and replacing the water pump… I was going to start searching for a mechanic (either licensed, or just a friend who might know what they’re doing), but after watching this, I’ve decided this is DEFINITELY a job I can take on by myself!!! You may have just saved me hundreds!!
Try going to automd.com/repaircost/estimate You enter your vehicle, type of repair, your zip code, press GET ESTIMATE button it will give you average dealer, independent shop, and DIY pricings. Hope that helps.
I have a 1998 dodge caravan how much should it cost to replace the alternator.
cool, thanks,i,m about to give this a try.Thanking you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for the talk-through. As crazy as it sounds, I am most grateful for the PVC pipe suggestion. It would have taken me a while to get angry enough to think something like that up, but I’ll do it from the outset. Goodbye Saturday afternoon…
Thank you so much! the tension pulley was easy 15mm short socket, set ratchet to tighten, get on the tensioner bolt and push down maybe a half inch. then slip belt off the top of the Alt. and now IS the best time to get to the back plugs
Thanks for the video. Wish you would have shown your “homemade wrench” used to loosen the tension pulley.
Hell yeah, thanks for the video man. Gave me a lot of insight on how to get this shit out.
Thanks for the video. It was great. It would have been awesome of you shined a light while videoing
thank you went in faster then it came out stupid bottom nut but didn’t drop it thanks to you!
Thanks so much – Finally got my alternator out… Stupid bracket was in the way…
