I found it easier to remove the tire.
No you do not need to compress the spring. Instead jack the frame and let the spring stretch out. This gives more room and less fighting a compressed shock.
Shocks do not have anything to do with wheel alignment on this vehice as they dont adjust or control ride height and do not need to remove and reinstall springs while doing this.

The video is titled,"How to replace shock absorber 94-2002 Ram 2500" yet, shows a gasser 1500… if you are doing a 2500 Ram Cummins, it's not as easy… it's DOABLE… but, if like mine, when you do the front shocks, especially the drivers' side, and when you go to remove the top stud nut, but the upper body of the shock spins, save yourself some time, figure out where you can put a pipe wrench around the top half (through the coil spring) then in that area, drill a pilot hole 9/32 or so, and impact a self-tapper into the body, THEN the shock will hold so you can get the GD tower nut off…it's much simpler that way….
not even going to clean and rust prevent in between the mounting bracket and frame? Shoddy bro.
