The reason the cab hits the tank on older vehicles is the rubber bushin
mounts deteriorate over time and the cab actually rides a little lower than
from the factory. I fixed this problem on my 98 ram 2500 by replacing all
of the body rubber mounts with more durable poly bushings… easy fix but
lots of heavy labor to lift the cab and such…. but this is the correct
fix….

Mr.geRAM, thanks for the tip ! I have a 99 with 245000 miles on it and I
never could find out what that squeak was I would just get a can of wd40
and spray the heck out of the general location and it would stop for a
while.i’ll have to give it try.
Thanks John

Same problem with my 1998 Cummins. While doing fuel system mod and removing
tank I used thin squares of plywood (1/4″) placing them where the tank
contacts up against the bed and cab . May take more then one plywood shim
to get the tank slightly lower to clear the metal edge on the cab that’s
rubbing. Wouldn’t have to completely drop the tank. You could slip the wood
shims in by loosening the tank straps and still get room and keep tank
level. Good luck. The noise was driving me nuts too!

have the same problem, i just put carpet like you did and its gone now and
yes my fuel tank is wore a little where it was rubbing

I suggest folding them up or removing them and putting an ebay center
console on the floor in their place. If you’re creative you can build
something into the dash that looks pretty good.

Body mounts. Put in a small body lift and it will take it away from the tank

Thank you!!!!

How do you drive something like this in Europe? It’s bigger than your roads
haha. Not to mention the fuel consumption! It’s very cool though. Good tip
as well, I have not had this problem but with over 250,000 miles I probably
will soon.

Next time I’m under my Ram I’ll take a look. Most of the squeaking inside
my cab is from the plastic cup holders.

I’m sorry american cars are crap, it’s embarrassing. The cab destroys the
fuel tank? Come on!!
