Front Axle 4 Wheel Drive Actuator Replacement 4×4 Dodge Ram

Front Axle 4 Wheel Drive Actuator Replacement 4×4 Dodge Ram

The front axle engages now! The truck is terrible in snow and mud with just the rear wheels being powered.

i did mine a year ago, i cut that shaft and then took that clip off. it
wasnt bad becase after i cut the shaft and got fork out of way

Rick Hunter says:

Who wouldn’t like a well made video, with a good burn out at the end ?

Timothy Joyce says:

I actually just watched your video last night. Then this afternoon put a
new actuator in my truck. The 4wd light was taking a long time to go on
and off. Now the 4wd engages in and out very quickly. To get the big snap
ring out I bent the clip forward with the beveled side towards the clip and
pulled it out in about minute. Then hammered the actuator, rotating my
hits clockwise till it came out. Figured I would share my story. Thanks
for the confidence from your video to do the job!

kirt fossum says:

What kind of oil do you put back in actuator motor housing

John Hall says:

Is the front actuator in the same place on a 2007 dodge ram 4×4 ???????

dillon14dj says:

Now come do the one on my 01 ram please lol. Front driveshaft will spend
but not tires/and light doesnt come on anymore

Ismael Garcia says:

Did you have to put more oil once you installed it back on?

Steven Geer says:

Its 2006. He says it in the first 4 seconds.

tom58c says:

For the off road stuff we try to just put a straight axle in on that side
and plate off the vacuum actuator. But sense this isn’t a off road rock
crawler my comment isn’t helpful lol.

500passwords says:

he almost got you again with that burn out 🙂 i thought that front wheel
was gonna turn right at you . lol

dingdongdillybean says:

Hey great video, was curious what your symptoms were? My 4×4 light is slow
to come off/go on, and makes a odd noise, which increases with noise the
faster you go, could only go about 50km’s, and had to get past a snowstorm.
I could tell the 4×4 was working, but didnt sound healthy at all. As well,
when I was under the truck i noticed I could turn my front drive shaft when
it was in park? Is this normal? Any information would be great!

EdzGarage says:

@Gearheadtom I’ve always had 2w drive trucks. They suck in the snow and the
mud lol

OneHDNetwork says:

Then why does Posi-Lok sell a locker that goes right there as shown in this
video >> watch?v=wmAq7v93mjE, The only reason I would assume your laughing
is that the actuator is there to turn on the 4×4 light, especially when we
have a 4×4 shifter lever, in the video there is a switch for the light but
it that’s all he said it was for… If you think your right and he is wrong
then please educate instead of laugh…

ShawnCFarm says:

You didn’t get hit by rocks this time lol

EdzGarage says:

@jdrocks85 Thanks Buddy! They worked really well. I haven’t had do anything
really big with them yet.

Craig Arndt says:

Looks like the smile from your son says it all. Nice job fellas!

EdzGarage says:

@mallydangerous Well, I post almost every job we do in the garage. If I
don’t post, it’s not broke lol

EdzGarage says:

@805ROADKING Thanks Buddy! I guess we will see how long.

EdzGarage says:

@73Shakes Thanks for watching!

jdrocks85 says:

@edzgarage thats good the cool thing about them they work on e torx

OneHDNetwork says:

its a vacuum assisted locker

EdzGarage says:

@patwregan That would be a great upgrade one day.

Sears Suburban Backyard Tractor Club says:

2 fine mechanics your got there Ed. You forgetting how to do some of this
stuff? lol

Paul says:

That cummins sounds so badass it’s not even funny..

craigp1974 says:

Nice! I just had to return a couple of faulty tools to Sears yesterday. I
always have problems with those 1/4 inch drive ratchets. Yesterday one of
the front tires went flat on my mothers car, and today i busted the fairing
on my scooter. During the cold weather it really sucks.

the1realanalogman says:

Excellent tutorial and exactly what I was looking for!!! Thanks for your
great work and for sharing!!

EdzGarage says:

@ShnitzlHaus No, the transfer case is engaged from inside the cab. The
actuator is basically an automatic locking hub for the front tires.

EdzGarage says:

@klc317 Yep, he missed me this time lol Thanks for watching!

paperweightgirl says:

I wished you lived near by, I could use a good mechanic.

TheMonstar305 says:

my 99 has abs and brake light on what could be the problem? new senor both
side .no TDC

EdzGarage says:

@biggdaddy2001 I don’t really know. In our case it was the actuator.

ShnitzlHaus says:

@edzgarage ahh okay, thats what I was thinking but never been around the
4wd dodge to know 😛 good videa!

b737drvr says:

Good vid. Ed, could you add me as one of your contacts, so I can send you a
message. Got a couple of questions unrelated to the video to ask you.
Thanks.

EdzGarage says:

@CDNBadass LOL I bet those tools get plenty dirty in the future. Thanks
Jeff!

EdzGarage says:

@paperweightgirl What about Marcel??? LOL j/k

tom58c says:

@edzgarage Not high on your list im sure lol.

EdzGarage says:

@ShawnCFarm lol Nope, they missed me this time!

dingdongdillybean says:

how do you check the vacuum?just start the truck, have someone switch it
into four wheel drive and take the vacuum line off and feel fore pressure
difference?

mbyr31 says:

Great job guys! That tool set looks pretty nice Ed Could you have used a
hook to get that clip out? I hate those clips sometimes.

EdzGarage says:

@krupter lol I guess you never know! Thanks for the comment Buddy!

EdzGarage says:

@500passwords Yep, I thought I was going to get a dirt-snow pie in the
face!

EdzGarage says:

@dangerline95 It sure is!

EdzGarage says:

@69dodgechargerrt1 It would be even better with a stick!

EdzGarage says:

@1968hambone Thanks HB!

EdzGarage says:

Sounds like your actuator is not engaging all the way. It could be a vacuum
leak at the actuator or in the line going to the actuator.

EdzGarage says:

@OldTimeForties Thanks Buddy!
