excellent vid Richpin.. a question about your air tools: I dont currently
have any but when i do get some, what is the min specs reqd for a
compressor? Ive seen 100types of compressors – what should be the min in
spec when buying one for use with airtools as per your use in this vid?

@spelunkerd I do not have any knowledge of what the symptom was.When it
went in for the yearly vehicle inspection that is when it was found.
Yes we do have a lot of old time tools that still work well.

@frankie2234 its like the man said. if you have a new tie rod end thats 2mm
shorter than the old one, wind out the lock nut 2mm to displace the
difference, if its 2mm longer do the opposite.

Richpin.. I knew that voice sounded firmiliar. My brother and I would
ALWAYS watch your vids about Saturns we would always say “lets go see how
RIchpin did it”. and now coincidently enough, you have videos on my new
vehicle, a Dakota! awsome.
Respond to this video… Rich, when I do a tie rod on one of my own
vehicles, I do them in pairs. I’m not second guessing you by any means, but
was there a reason you did only the one side? And yes, I pay to have the
alignment done after any repair that affects the alignment in anyway, tie
rods being the number one.
What were the symptoms of tie rod failure in the truck you were working on?
I’m impressed you actually used a torque wrench. I only use those when
doing head bolts.
@smazz104 I would not go any smaller than what i am using which is 2 hp
,20gal tank, twin cyl. 220 volts,10.5 cfm
Wow, a really easy fix. I thought it was going to be really complicated
because, you know, dodge.
@smazz104 Look at the specs your air tools need. For instance, my 1/2″
impact uses 5.4 cfm @ 90 psi. Find a compressor that meets those specs. I
don’t have a 220v outlet in my garage, so I’m about to get the crappy
harbor freight compressor that meets (almost) those specs, and runs on
110v. I use torque stick extensions and my torque wrench on parts that I’m
concerned with over or under-torquing a nut or bolt to verify the repair.
if you still havent found out what the symptoms are they are, steering
wheel wobble, and knocking, the easiest way to tell if you need them is if
you jack your truck up and give your tire a wiggle, if it wiggles you need
a new one on that side
Thanks. You should of did the inner tie rod ends too while you were in
there. super easy. I did the whole job with a crecent wrench, screwdriver,
and new hose clamps.

Im getting a knocking noise on torn and going over speed bumps. I was old
this could be the problem? Hope it is because this looks fairly simple and
no reason to pay a shop $700….
@spelunkerd Un even tire wear, shake in the steering wheel at certain
speeds. And if you lift each side up, with the tire off the ground, hold
the tire firmly and try to wiggle it, it shouldnt move (unless the other
steering tire is off the ground) Do this while you look at the tie rod end
and balljoints to see what has play in it.

im fixin up a 99 dodge 1500 short bed it needs a rear right brake cable, a
new tie rod, and front sway bars on the right side. how much should that
cost me?
Hi. Some tie rod ends require that you put some grease in them with grease
gun. Some do not need it. Im correct? Which ones should i prefer?
