Dodge ram steering column removal and dollar saving tips!!! Step-by-step DIY repair for $50!!!!!

In this video I’m doing a steering column on a 2004 Dodge ram I am taking the steering column out of a 2008 Dodge Durango and during the process I figured out that you could take the steering column out of a dodge Dakota as well the keys are different. But that does not matter as long as you have the new set of keys and you do not have an immobilizer you can do this at home and even if you do have an immobilizer you can have a locksmith come over and program the key to your truck for about $75 I also explain to you the differences between the Dodge Durango Steering column differences and a Dodge ram steering column if you’re on able to get an exact fit for your truck this is the video for you even if you’re just removing the steering column this video will be extremely helpful!! And more than likely you’re going to probably learn something that you didn’t already know. So I hope you enjoy have the best of days

I hit a pot hole when I was on the highway doing about 60 miles an hour and broke my entire steering column I found a new steering column at a used part store which came with the key in the ignition and black box attached to it I removed my old black box and put it on the new steering column and then I also replaced the ignition switch because I had the key and in order to get your same ignition switch you need to have the original key to the new steering column to be able to take it out once I changed all my old stuff “black box and Ignition switch “ it fired right up

Rickey Keeton says:

I have a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.9 engine.
Ignition went bad and would not start.
I cannot get the new or old switch to fit back flush due to what looks a web covered piece at the bottom of the bottom hole where the switch goes. It has an o ring on it like it is supposed to fit into something. It is a little high not letting either switch fit flush.
Suggestions?

How did you remove the shift linkage from the column?

Good job brother

Robert Crittenden says:

I have a 03. I hit some ice last year. My rear bolts are still bolted in. But the front two are like keys teeth. And the column is moved back. It needs to move forward about an inch.
I have watched dozens of vids trying to fix.
Any helps guys?

At 2:43 what does that clip go to?

Cesar Arenas says:

Hey Clay!! Why did you have to change the whole steering column in the first place?

Chase Steffes says:

What does the steering column bolt to? I hit something with my tire while sliding on ice last winter and now my whole steering column and steering wheel move as one unit and hit something above the column, its really annoying when on a bumpy road. It seems as whatever the steering column bolts to broke and now the steering column and the respective bracket are able to pivot even though all bolts to it are tight.

Clay
I just watched it again. For some reason I thought one of them didn’t have keys? I picked up a column from a junk yard no keys! Do you have a good procedure to remove key cylinder
