I was told by an old guy once, get the press tight till it almost won’t turn anymore, and smack the control arm with a hammer and it’ll pop right out and the rest goes smoothly. Also lube the screw of the press it makes it work A LOT better. I always use moog parts for suspension parts though. Mevotech has been good to me as well.
I learned more from your video than all the others together. It’s my upcoming weekend project. Much appreciated.
It’s fun to fix your own car.
Thanks man
Thanks for the help Bruce!
When breaking loose the tie rod end with the boot leave it in the aluminum frame to get leverage to break the nut loose
This was a great starting point for me with my 05 ram 4 wheel drive
Indeed, having a pneumatic drill and hammer, and even the rachet would make this very quick!
Thank you for the video, it was very informative. Without it, i wouldn’t have attempted it myself.
Love that Basshunter song at 5:11!
Looking at the ball joint, why didn’t you get one that was already pressed into the housing, there were 3 rivets there to drill out and replace with nuts and bolts?
Ebay? how are they holding up
Great how-to. I’d say throw a deep 1/2″ drive socket with a breaker bar on the c-clamp press, or better yet if you have it a 1/2″ impact gun…. itll make your life a lot easier than using a wrench!
Could have done without that distracting music.
Hi Rebecca! Awww, don’t be so shy. This was an awesome video, you should be proud to be in it.
i pounded my lower ball joint by hitting it with the hammer by itself! three big taps and came straight out no need to use the tool! i did have to use the tool to push it in though! btw u can pick up that ball joint tool kit at ur local harbor freight i only paid 30 bucks for it
Thanks guy. I have the exact make and model Ram and the same damn problem! I appreciate the work you put into the video.
thanks for the info…i have a dodge durango & i need to to the joints on it….i kno its different from a ram but at least i kno what to do & what tools i will need..now i feel a more comfortable now on the work i’ll be doing this weekend… thank you for your help & putting this video out!!
How is it that your 2002 came with a hemi I thought hemi wasn’t available until 2003?
next time have a fan blowing on you. Keep cool when working on a hard project.
Great video!! Very informative. I have an 04 Ram 1500. I’ve been needing to change out my ball joints for some time now. I’m actually a pretty good garage mechanic….so i’m told, but I was hesitant to try and change out the ball joints my self because of the work envolved and I was unsure of any special tools required. Your video has answered all my questions and has given me the courage to get it done. Thanks.
nice soundtrack and good info
when you return it you will get your money back. Its just a deposit just in case you break it or fail to return it.
thank you so much, with out this video I would have never gotten that damn lower ball joint off!
I’m curious as to what auto parts store gave it for free. The local O’Reilly wants $150 just to rent it
Thanks for putting this video up!!!!! lol just made my saturday less of a headache!
nice video but why are you hammering on the ball joint tool? just put a piece of pipe on the wrench..
Very informative video…gonna have to visit this myself on my ’04, my local mechanic wanted $1000 to do this job!!
I dont even own this year of a ram, or a two wheel drive. But i really enjoyed your video. Great music too by the way.
Great video! It really helped, thanks a lot for making it. Worked fine on my 2004 1500. My local auto parts store does tool loaning, but their kit only had 3 tube adapters, and only one of those was the right size for the lower- no way to bring the ball joint up past flush when installing the new one- I went back and got them to loan me another kit, but of course it was too long to use the end plates, I was able to just barely wedge a 1/4″ steel plate up top and get it done. PHEW! Thanks again!
