I have a 03 dodge neon that is throwing the PO344 code. Camshaft….. so my question is my car seems to run jus fine but engine light is on…with that code and every answer I have found said the car runs funny. Bogs down with aacceleration. Mine does not . What could be the problem…. I’m still changing the sensor tomorrow.

Autotechviewpoint says:

Cam sensors job is usually to tell the computer where #1 cylinder is. It can then know when to fire the fuel injectors one at a time, sequential fuel injection. With out knowing where #1 cylinder is, a fuel injected car would fire a group of injectors, not as fuel efficient.

kphillips55 says:

One more thing. What does this sensor do exactly, if you dont mind.

kphillips55 says:

I just had this cam sensor and power steering sensor replaced. I couldn’t get the guy to show me what he actually did so this video was perfect for the cam sensor. Thx a lot. Indianapolis, In

Autotechviewpoint says:

You replaced the camshaft two times? You need to start with having someone pull the code(s) from the computer and find out why the check engine light is coming on.

Davidmex10 says:

i Have a dodge neon 03 i replace the camshaft twice and the check engine light keeps coming up. what should i do?

MD2389 says:

I actually just recently had this issue. It would really stutter going up inclines, and replacing the sensor immediately made the trouble indicator go away! I’m actually grateful for this video (I have a 2004 SXT), and I couldn’t figure out how to get the cable to detach from the sensor. Just glad I saw your video, before I did something stupid to damage the connector!

Autotechviewpoint says:

Tricky question. guess I would just do the cam sensor, fairly cheap. If it fixes it great. If not, take it to a garage. I hate to see people come in with a bunch of new parts and their car still not fixed…

jcp says:

Good video….nice to see my engine represented so clearly.
I get the p0344 code and it seems to have lost drive….when i give it gas it jerks and stutters….have had some issues with mis-starts as well.
Should i attempt the cam sensor replace or is this a garage job?

dragonmonkey420 says:

what rpms you hitting then? When my cam sensor started going i couldn’t get over 2.3 -2.5k rpms without that happening (max speed would be around 60mph and it would start jerking)

Autotechviewpoint says:

A mechanic fixed the gasket? I would think it should be up to the mechanic to make sure he gives you back your car running…? What gasket, head gasket? Need to check for spark and fuel pressure and injector signal and are the timing marks all lined up properly?

Tom Guertin says:

If you car starts, your timing belt is intact

greaywolf34 says:

I wasn’t sure the sensor location, but watched the entire video anyway. Mighty fine job. Illinois.

sixftindn84 says:

From n.c and i have been charged $100 before to do this thank u for the video so now i cant get screwed by a mechanic anymore

garciajunebog says:

Cars that don’t start could be the crank position sensor

frank datank says:

nice video i got a 02 neon when i go over 75-80mph it begins to jerk every once an a while would that be the case the cam sencer???

OctoberLibra1 says:

You really didn’t show shit….I mean show where you took the battery out and where to go with the camera…

lalanis3 says:

i have 2003 neon …check engine light on…it shows cam sensor neded…but other people tell me it the timing belt since ther made off rubber….the only thing wrong with the car is that it stays cranking for a long time and will turn on after a while sometimes it start right away…..???

Andrea Garcia says:

so driving along today and stopped at a red light .. engine light came on and car died,, would not re start, i checked the spark plugs and fuel pump does seem to kick on when key is turned i checked the fuses and all is well. it will turn but will not start, any suggestions? please and thank you.

Autotechviewpoint says:

could be the problem, cam sensor failure is semi-common on these. Best to check what code has set in the computer causing the check engine light to come on.

melissathebomb777 says:

Hello I have a 2005 dodge neon, I replaced the fuel pump regulator. It then seemed that it was good, up and running. I then tried to drive it around the block then it died. It seems now it starts when it wants to, and the check engine light is on. I was told by the person that I bought the car from told me a sensor is going out and it would be a simple fix. Does this sound like the problem?

Autotechviewpoint says:

No And you will likely be ok without it

Jay R says:

I have a 03 srt4 and I broke the red tab they sell replacements for that?

peevy23 says:

@Autotechviewpoint. the fuel pump kicks on and has full power. got a brand new battery yesterday. just keeps turning over. by checking spark, are u referring to spark plugs?

Autotechviewpoint says:

Sorry you really need some basic tools and tests to get started. Need to check for spark and then fuel pressure. Do you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key?
