2013 – 2018 Dodge Ram radio upgrade installation – CarPlay, Android Auto, and touchscreen

Detailed installation of a replacement wireless Android / CarPlay touchscreen stereo upgrade into a 2017 Dodge Ram. The process is the same for model years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018. The video discusses both manual and automatic climate control dash configurations.

The software boots and connects quickly, and is not ‘buggy’. Super impressive screen quality too!

The included link is an Amazon Affiliate link. What does affiliate link mean? I may earn a small (much appreciated!) commission from Amazon for providing the link, but it costs you nothing.

Just a note – a few pictures on the product page appear to be outdated. The unit is not a single piece panel, but rather comes with separate panels for both the manual and automatic climate controls.

‘Manual’ climate control CAN bus setting:
Since this truck has manual climate controls, the CAN bus does not ‘understand’ trying to ‘set’ the temperature. Change this setting to remove the environmental displays from the screen and eliminate the issue: car settings – factory – can related settings – ac display info – close

The seller is always trying to improve the CAN bus interface. You can update to the latest version (if desired) with the instructions at this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KgKM30kfn23euWsxLY2N0GAtO6O7pjZM/view

The built-in microphone works. It is not studio quality, you are easily able to speak with someone on the the phone. If higher quality is sought, just plug in the external mic.

MAKE SURE you verify your backup camera connections to the head. Do the backup camera test I suggest in the video.

Thanks for watching. Please give the video a ‘like’ if you found it useful.

So XM is a no go? Does it affect the compass at all? Is CarPlay a plug in only? Factory backup can work well?
