Well it cost me $1,400 at the dealers “service dept” to find out that I got
the wrong power steering hoses two years ago from the dealer “parts dept”,
also wrong pump. Very frustrating. My car hoses need {restrictor bands}
pump should be Silver!
This has fixed the problem.
To test I use a long screw driver as a stethoscope, tip on the unit handle
against ear. Also look with a strong flash light to see if there is air
bubbles in the power steering fluid in the reservoir ? Air is what makes
the pump whine. Could be alternator needs lubing. Idler pulley, belt
tensioner wheel. Air conditioner clutch. I changed them all to no avail

07 DODGE CHARGER R/T HEMI. I HEAR A WHINE SOUND WHEN I START AND WHILE
DRIVING I REPLACED MY WATER PUMP THE SOUND WENT AWAY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS
NOW ITS BACK. WHAT CAN IT BE? HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN ITS THE POWER STEERING
PUMP?

Curtis Litzelman says:

That wine that the power steering pump has, does the whine go up and down
accoring to the RPM’s? Mine does this and drive me nuts, does if I sit in
neutral and rev the engine I can hear it whine, its annoying. Down
shfiting you can hear it whine as well. I wish there was a fix for this.

I have an 06 RT and it has recently started to whine at the ps pump at
start up a lot and then a little while driving. I really appreciate your
vids as they help me out working on the ‘special’ thing. What was wrong
with the NAPA pump you used first? What was the ultimate solution the
steering pump whine? Thanks

LSE SSII says:

It turns out that the Outer tie rod ends were not properly adjusted evenly
on each side on the steering rack, and that seemed to piss off the pump.
Wow would have saved a lot of time and money had I known that.

LSE SSII says:

Yes same same.

Way to go! You can go pro now! Mom

LSE SSII says:

@RaguelAngelofBalance It started to get to whinny so I change it twice and
still whinny even when warmed up, so I changed out all four power steering
hoses today. I have not test driven it yet but it sounds good at idle.
Constricted hoses like clogged artery’s would be the problem if it runs
quieter. Told you it was special, LOL! Kinda $UCK$ if it was just the
hoses. Well that’s why I am posting these videos. Posting vid of the hose
change soon. Brakes & sway bar end links next.

is the process similar for a 06 charger 3.5 L?
