I’m curious as to whether or not the heater is taking longer to heat up
after installing that thermostat. ๏ปฟ
๐
did you notice any change in mileage and how much of a power difference
with the chip and t-stat
๐ sounds like me when I did my cam swap the other week. I thought I had
all the tools I needed and had to wait a few more days because I was
missing a few needed and required tools.
No problem glad I could help. I know the way I did it is a little messy
with the coolant but it keeps you from having to drain the whole radiator
by opening the drain plug.
“No more than 15mins” lol man me and my Buddy took 3hrs to change it -_-
didnt have the right tools though
@alienaxe ???????? What?? I guess you are talking about the bolt by the
radiator clap at 1:54 in the video. That bolt was never touched and that is
the way the bolt is. Thanks for the advice though.
Thanks and no problem. I wish I would have done a video on the cam install
but it was hard enough working on it in the garage in the winter time and
trying not to let my wife now what the hell I was doing ๐
That was vid 2 of 2 which I posted below – here is vid 1 of 2.
youtube.com/watch?v=dEXtVsMb9KI&feature=youtu.be
Yep ur right it does keep it much cooler thanks for the video
No problem. Check out my other vids
Thanks!!!!
I did not notice a difference in idle. I live in the atlanta, ga area and
in the winter time it does take a while for the truck to warm up.
I am pretty sure if you follow the radiator line into the engine like I
showed on my video it would be located there. I have a Dodge manual, so I
can check for you and post my findings.
Well I have the Aux Trans cooler installed and it is working just fine. I
was not able to get a video of the actual process but I will record the
steps needed for the install.
Everyone I am going to put in a AUX trans cooler and should have a video of
the install of that too.
@bushmanjack Nope no gain in power or mileage, just runs cooler. I do not
have a chip in my truck
Thanks for posting this vid. Got a question…..I have a 03′ with a 5.7L
magnum and I’m trying to put the thermostat back in (long story why I took
it out in the first place). The housing didn’t have a cardboard gasket, or
any other gasket material (such as permatex, etc), The only gasket was a
pale red-colored rubber gasket, similar to the one shown in your vid on
your thermostat. IN WHAT POSITION DO I PUT THE RUBBER GASKET?
(continued)…..
Where is the thermastat location on 2005 Dodge ram 1500 4.7 litre??
If I would have watched your other videos before commenting I would have
realized that gas mileage is not a priority on your truck…LOL
this vid helped out alot. my uncle has the same engine in his durango and
was told by a mech shop that it would cost over $180 to replace. thank you
very much
Great video thanks, did you have any issues bleeding the air out of the
system afterwards? If so how did you bleed it out? Thanks again great job
and that Hemi sounds nice!
thank you !!!
No Problem
Thanks. Yep, that cam will effect gas mileage, but don’t worry gas is
cheap…LOL
me too. I managed to change it myself but it took me a couple of hours.
thanks again.
The only fliud you have to drain is the fluid at the top of the
radiator. That fluid will come out as soon as you disconnect the hose
(connected to the T-stat),so have a bucket ready.Once the fluid in the
radiator gets below the hose(connected to the t-stat) the fluid will
stop. There will also be some fluid behind the t-stat that will come out as
soon as๏ปฟ you pull the t-stat out.Total, I had about a 1/2 gallon of fluid
come out that I had to replace.Go to dodge and get the fluid.
๐ your welcome. I am surprised there are not a lot more basic upgrade
videos around.
Nice Vid. Been looking to get info about this procedure. Need to do the
same on my Durango ๐
I just installed a Griffin aluminum radiator in my Ram along with a 180
stat. I’m also running the electric fan conversion from Flex-A-Lite now
I’ve just gotta get the air out of the system. I know the Hemi’s that are
in the cars have a threaded plug in the water pump that can be removed for
bleeding. I’m going to check my water pump for that plug. if you ever
consider upgrading your radiator I can send you pictures of my setup.
Thanks man. Just bought a used 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi and replacing all fluids,
etc. This is very helpful.
Nope gas is not cheap that is why I have a 2002 Saturn SC that gets about
32-33 mpg. I drive mostly highway…so I spend about $25-35 bucks a week on
gas and I get about 300-340 miles to the tank and I usually have about
1.5-2 gallons left in the tank. If I did not have the Saturn I would not of
added all those upgrades cause I would go broke putting gas in the truck.
Hell I was going broke when it was my daily driver stock.
I did not notice any change to my gas mileage with just the thermostat
installed and I did not change my O-ring. I only notice a change in MPG
when I installed my COMP CAM 268 which I knew I would. Other than that out
of all my mods my MPG never changed…If you look at my other video you
will see all the mods I have done to my truck. Right now I get about 9-10
mpg city and about 12-13 mpg highway and that is with all my performance
upgrades.
Doesn’t this affect the vehicle computer at all? I would think the idle
speed would stay high since the engine thinks it is cooler now and not
warmed up? Also, where do you live, as I am up north where it gets pretty
cold and I wonder how this will affect the vehicle in the winter? Thanks.
@margaretneer I looked at the manual and it says on๏ปฟ the 4.7 you need to
follow the bottom hose to the engine and that is where the thermostat will
be. I hope this helps
Thanks!
Does the thermostat go into the housing first, with the rubber gasket
behind it, followed by the removable hose flange, or does the gasket go on
ahead of the thermostat and flange? Your vid shows that your thermostat
almost looks like the gasket is centered around the thin outer edge of the
thermostat, allowing the rubber to come into contact with both the housing
and the removable flange. I installed it with the gasket on both sides and
it’s leaking either way.
If it runs too cool it will kill your gas mileage because the computer
thinks the truck is still warming up and kind of runs like a “choke” but
electronically until the truck reaches the stock running temperature.
Awesome video I am going to have to pull mine apart because the O ring is
leaking. Did you change the O ring?
you forgot to tighten up a bolt next to the thermostat housing, it’s still
loos in yo video.
The rubber gasket goes around the outside edge of the thermostat. No, the
housing does not have a gasket.
Hey do u need to drain any coolant to install the jet 180 I have mine on
order
you would have a difference in the HP, but its where you would notice
it….when your engine warms up you lose power, using the 180 keeps you
cooler to the point where you wont lose that power
Nope no gain in power or mileage, just runs cooler. I do not have a chip in
my truck.
i know we just needed some channel locks to squeeze the hose clamp but
ended up using a C-clamp lol then lost one bolt for an hour it was right
under the pulley
@bjackson37 Thanks! Always glad to help. I am looking to do a new 80mm or
84mm Throttle Body install, and a COMP 268 cam in about a year or two so
look out for that. Your uncle may want to do a new TB too, it helps with
the drive by wire pedal acceleration.
DO YOU HAVE TO TORQUE THE BOLTS ON THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING?
TY TY TY !!!
No issues. I do not even know if there is a bleeder screw for the cooling
system on the dodge. I can check when I get home. Usually what I do and
what I do on most cars is start the engine and fill the radiator back up to
the correct level while the engine is running. I keep the cap off until I
am sure that the fluid is not going to go down anymore. Make sure you cap
the radiator before turning it off or you will be sorry and probably in the
hospital with burns.
Thanks alot for posting this video, i will be doing this soon.. Thanks alot
for the help and taking the time to post this.
