01 Dodge Caravan. Replace rear brake shoes. Part 1 of 2.

This is off a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. The drums brakes on rear. This is everything I did to replace the brake shoes.

Instead of a WD-40 squirt some PB blaster – You’ll never go back.

yus153 says:

He didn’t go under the vehicle…how was he in danger?

Gilbert Arciniega says:

STOP with the shit with the jack stand. I been using jacks to do brakes for
the last 24 years. Obviously you are a HATER. And HATERS IS GONNA HATE

4everinadayandahalf says:

a good way to get read of dust . spray water with a hose on the brake
assembly

ganda2022 says:

Typically use my bear hand………….thanks for VDO

Gilbert Arciniega says:

DO NOT TOUCH your brakes if you don’t think you can do it.

garylmace says:

Did you happen to wonder what those threaded holes in the drum were for as
you were beating it with a hammer to remove??? They are to screw in two
bolts to remove the drum without beating it to death with a sledge hammer.

Alex George says:

Thanks SO much for your video. I understood how, but (never having done
drum brakes before) seeing it done on the same vehicle makes it so much
easier. 🙂

hyboost says:

Always a good idea to first clean, then lube the backing plate to shoe rub
pads. (these are the 6 small raised little surfaces on the backing plate, 3
for the front and 3 for the rear pads) This helps the brake shoes slide
smoothly, and quietly against the backing plate. I use a very small amount
of axle grease.

garylmace says:

Uh yeah, I know that. I have an 01 Caravan also I just did the brakes on.
Thats how I found your video. Thanks for posting it. Was helpful

Jorge Bruno says:

Gilbert Arciniega says:

before I do it, after I was not affraid to do the job by my self on my

read all the comment of peoples.

Begbucks says:

0:56 PB blaster (about $4 a can at Wal-mart) work loads better (WD-40 won’t
even scratch the surface) I remember years ago the PB blaster cans would
leak due to the stuff working it’s way thru the seal! – Man that stuff
works!

Gilbert Arciniega says:

Very rarely it will so rotted that you can’t lift a car without breaking.
THATS THE FRAME of the whole car! Any alternative. There really is no
other. Because the frame is the only place to set the “lift point” at. If
you are going UNDER the vehicle, You will need to be sure that you set
wheel stops on the remaining wheels. And since you will be under, jack
stands!

lalalalalalabitch says:

dude you bailed me out alot. thanks for the informative video.

1520cesar says:

thank you! you saved me $400.00 from a stupid shop.

Hammer is the mecanic best friend!

buscador2007 says:

I liked your video, very informative, I have a Dodge ram truck that needs
work on the brakes, I may do it myself or not. we’ll see. By the way, you
are never going to make everybody happy, I always use a stand on my
vehicles before working on them and use all kind of caution, it’s common
sense. I don’t criticise your work in any way. Thanks for the video.

dadrules714 says:

Little surprised you got the drum off w/o backing off the adj (tension)
assy first(opening in back w tool/screwdriver). Been my exp that the shoes
cut into the drum (creating a lip around inside) preventing it from pulling
off. Short of ripping everything off the wheel. But, last time I did drum
brakes was on 1967 Merc Comet. We just bought (2nd hand 97k 2001) mini van
for taking kids to football. So thanx for FIY DIY.

Poldariser says:

I don’t think advising someone to use something makes them a hater….. my
point was just to say that I use them…. That is all…. Again thanks for
the vid

blurookie says:

I don’t think I’ve ever had a better lesson on car repairs in my life.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. You just saved me a bundle.

Gilbert Arciniega says:

Your just another one of those NAGGING 17 yr old moms that WORRY TOO MUCH.
It’s a very LOW NEXT TO NOTHING chance of the shit you IMAGINE is going to
happen. JUST USE COMMON SENSE NOT TO WALK UNDER THE CAR…. DON’T YOU
THINK???

bluesmovers says:

What do you do if the lift point is so rotted away you don’t trust it? I am
balking at lifting the vehicle because of this… the lift point is there,
but nothing else is (rocker is gone). Anybody know of the best alternative
lift point on a ’99 Chrysler van? I need to do the wheel bearing assembly,
and will be under the car a bit.

Gilbert Arciniega says:

So YOU ARE A NAGGING 7 YEAR OLD. YOU ARE JUST JEALOUS OR SOMETHING (I HAVE
NO IDEA WHY) IF I was not smart enough HOW COME YOU ARE EVEN WATCHING MY
VIDEO ANYWAY??? Obviously because YOU are NOT smart enough to DO ANYTHING
AT ALL INCLUDING COMMENTING ON YOUTUBE. AND one other thing. It is NOT
needed to go under the car to do brakes. MORON!

MrDavewil says:

thanks for posting and to hell with all of these people nit picking you!! f
