Just before the doors started malfunction, our doors opened up on us while driving down the highway with 3 year old next to the door. Then the doors started to open up only a few inches. Shortly thereafter, they quit working all together and I noticed a solid black wire handing our on the passenger side wire track in the door. I will also be fixing this problem after watching your post. Thank you for your video.

Thank you– your video saved my sanity! With 3 kids I thought I was out of luck with the door but following your video I found the split wire fixed it and it worked!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

I thought the door motor had went bad. The ground wire was completely cut in half. Cleared the rubber around the wire and took some butt conectors and it works like new! Thanks for the video!

Hello thanks so much for the tutorial. I believe it was your video that I used about two years ago to do the Passenger side door. The Driver’s side door is now only opening a few inches and then has a motor winding sound. The same is true when shutting the door, it gets to 2″ and stops with motor winding. I checked the Wires and all seems good. I do remember Cleaning the brass clutch plate and magnet of the the door motor, but this was to let the door move more freely when opening manually.

Jenny R says:

Worked great thank you (took less than ten minutes)

fuzzydudeFL says:

Sir, you saved me $400. It was easy to find the break because when I moved the wire, I could hear the electronics beeping and then stop beeping if I moved it another direction. A sincerest thank you to you and yours!!!

Heather Taylor says:

so was wondering do I need a wire connector to fix the cut wires? I tried twisting them together today but the door still did not work. 🙁

Michael Oleksak says:

Excellent Post – Thank you

Kevin Calvey says:

Awesome post! I opened the snake channel and repaired the cut line. Total reapair time: 15 min. Thanks for sharing!

bigdogintexas says:

Thank you, thank you. Step by step and spot on information, with matching video. I repaired by 2004 caravan door after doing a google search and finding this video. As noted my door would open or close about three inches then stop. Local shade tree mechanic said I would need to take to dealership and have computer programmed as he thought the obsticle sensor was engaging. What I would add to this is to open the links just press in the middle of each, this rocks the clip back for easier open

You Sir, are awesome! Thanks so much…

The “chain” is called caterpillar track.

Kevin Cole says:

My Voyger door opens sometimes and other times the door pops as if its going to open, makes the noise as though its going to open but just sits there and you have to pull the door back. Any ideas?

3curlyheads says:

Dead on! Wire was severed in two locations. I would have gotten rooked for a new harness and God knows how much in labor by the dealership. Much appreciated!!!!!!!!

dj5172008 says:

We have an ’06 Town & Country. At first the driver side slider would only open manually, not at all with the power operation (although it made sounds like it wanted to). After playing down there for a bit, the door would close to about a 1 foot opening, then stop. Your video hit the problem right on the head…one wire was broken (in two places!!!). Thanks so much!

sjjma49456 says:

Thanks for the video! One side was fixed under warranty but the opposite door stopped working last week. Seems like a common problem and poor design. Thanks for the video so I could fix it myself and save some money.

Robert George says:

Thanks. Your video was very helpful. As they say, “A pictures worth a thousand words!” I have the exact same problem on our 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. I would imagine the constant flexing of the wire bundle is probably the source of the problem. With all of the apparent problems, you would think this should be a recall issue. Anyway, thanks again for posting!
