If the caliper wont come off because of the notches on the pads you just pull it toward you by hand and then itll come right off!!
Thanks for your time bro but damn where did you learn how to do brakes?
Great! Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
That is awesome! I wish they had more diesel options here in the USA. Glad the video is helpful!!!
Many thanks,. I live in th UK and have a diesel PT and this video has been invaluable !
No prob! Glad it was a good reference! It is always faster on the second side hahaha (unless something goes wrong)….
Many thanks. I can’t count how many times I’ve changed brake pads on various cars, including the fronts on this one. Got stuck twice, watched your video both times and confirmed I was doing the ‘right thing’ and just kept at it and all eventually worked fine. 60 mins for lefts, 20 mins for rights 😉
With this car (pt cruiser) you have to compress the piston a little in order to slide the calipers off… I originally tried to just slide the calipers off like I do on all of my other cars but for some reason the PT Cruiser has to have the piston compressed… No matter what you will have to compress the piston when you put the new pads on though… Give it a shot without initially compressing it and if it doesnt come off, compress it… Let me know what happens!
I meant rear pads….it’s a 2003 GT Turbo with 4 wheel disc brakes. One other quick question – I noticed you compressed the rear brake piston with the ‘C’ clamp BEFORE trying to remove the caliper…I’ve seen other videos where the caliper pops off with a little wiggling after removing the bolts – has it been your experience that the piston needs to be compressed before removing the caliper?
Not really… just dont hit the sensor… This PT Cruiser has ABS as well and you never see it in the video because it is behind the caliper… You say “shoes” so do you mean pads or do you have rear drums?
I’ll be attempting a rear brake shoe replacement job on the wife’s Cruiser tomorrow – hers is a 2003 GT model with ABS….anything to worry about with respect to the ABS sensors when replacing the rear pads?
I gave this video a like, as i knew f all about pt cruisers, and as shit happens i have to change the front and rear pads on the wifes cruiser this wheekend, and now iam armed with the know how, cheers mate
Thanks. I’ll do my rotor and pads this weekend 🙂
yes, high temp grease… most pads come with it in the box
Silicone grease?
Actually I do brakes all the time… I like how I call it a fuel line by mistake (I think I even correct myself) and you think this is my first time… How did I use the piston compressor wrong?
I think this is your first time doing brakes. I’m exhausted just by watching. Improper used of the piston compresor and calling fuel line to a brake fluid one. Good luck on the next one.
haha, which step do you pump the brakes?
Forgot to pump the breaks !!!!! Lol
You can just unbolt the caliper then prize it off the disc with a screw driver then push the piston back with water pump pliers
The rear disc brakes are an option… The higher end pt cruisers have them (this is a touring)…
hi Im a bit confused, eric the carguy does a 2002 cruiser rear wheel brake job, but its not disc/pads, its drum and shoe brakes, I have a 2002 2ltr and the rear brakes are same has yours, so my question is I guess did chrysler do two types of rear brakes on some cruisers,
you did a great job on your vid graham
No prob! Glad it was useful!!!
Useful thanks :)
Should be the same thing… This will work on most cars because most disc brakes are similar!!!
can these tips work on pt cruiser 2003?
Thanks now I know how to change my brakes!!!
Going down the street to make a quick $50. If only it wasn’t raining out….
Thanks for the walkthrough man.
Awesome!!! Im glad I could help!
Great video ! It really will help me in the future 🙂 Thx for sharing !
I am really happy this has helped you!!! It is nice to know I could help someone change their brakes!!!!
The key for me, being a novice was to get the simple $5 (priceless to me) brake tool. I did not have this for the first side I tried. Do yourself a favor and get this. Also remember to grease the back side of the where the clip that goes into the piston is. This will make this project much easier. This is the best video out there. Best mechanic and lighting. Watch first install after. I really appreciate the people who made this.
