Welcome back to the Gator Overland channel. In todays video i show you step by step how to replace your cracked or leaking oil filter housing on your 2011-current 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine for Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Chrysler vehicles. For the folks in the 80k-100k mile range I cover how to replace the spark plugs as the removal process for access is the same for the oil cooler.
Doing this project yourself can be done with simple tools and save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars (i was quoted $1900 for housing and spark plug replacement.
Feel free to reach out with any questions and/or leave a comment, alway happy to help.

best video ever ,,,, thank you for the all the precise information
Thanks for creating this video. Very well done. When refilling the coolant how are air pockets eliminated?
Excellent and thorough. Thank you for putting this set of instructions and tips together.
Just followed this video to upgrade to a Dorman in my 2018 Wrangler JL Sport with 101k mi. Excellent video to reference while wrenching. Changed my plugs/coils and PCV while in the trenches. Thanks!
Oh no. What have I gotten myself into? I swear my 2011 Kia was easier to work on
Mechanic just told me yesterday mine is going bad. Would this be the cause that when i gun it hard there is a burnt oil smell afterwards?
Thank you for producing this video. Your shot composition, editing, sound, etc. are top notch production quality backed by your wonderful step by step instruction is great. We recently bought a ‘23 JLU RUBICON and being an old school car guy with my previous YJ and current ’04 LJ, the current JL generation is closer to more luxury feel sedan / computer on wheels than the “drive by the seat of your pants” feel of of the YJ, TJ and LJ “true” Jeep feel.
The oil filter housing and plugs have been a task that I was uncomfortable with for dealing with in the future. I joke with my family and friends since getting the JLU that I still carry tools with me in the JLU, but I don’t know how I’m going to use them on this Jeep. But your great video gave me my first spark of hope that I may yet be able to transition from my late 1970s & 1980s full service gas station and home garage self car maintenance to this JLU.
THANK YOU SIR
I had this replaced 8 months ago. Doing it myself with the Dorman tomorrow. I have nearly twenty years in the business, but I was dealing with illness at the time. Wish I didn’t though.
Anyhoo these last days I did the oil pump as well. That’s a fun job! Not! Just put a new oil pan on tonight. Waiting for the gasket to dry and put it all back together tomorrow
You don’t have to take all the stuff off they say to get the oil pan out. I have done it all by myself, except the sensor that goes in the block. Then, I will do the cooler.
Remove 1 axle completely
Drop the diff on Jack or Jack stands
Loosen the rack ,let the tie rods hold it. Pans comes right off. Leave the other axle to help hold the diff, but take it down to knuckle and let it lean back
Doing both intake cams, figure I should do my oil filter housing and plugs while im in there…
Honestly the hardest part is taking off those damn clips. Like how do they come off!!!
I have a 2016 jeep wrangler and I bealive this is an issue it’s having, but I’ve noticed some of the sensors will have a puddles of oil inside the connector part of it. Has anybody had this issue?
Great video I found it very helpful. I did notice that the lower intake bolts are supposed to be torque to 80 inch pounds and you said 108 in the video.
My dealer told me it was a valve cover gasket & did repairs under warranty. Sure enough, just out of warranty & the bell housing is damp again. Took the time to trace the source of the leak down & like many Jeeps, its the oil filter housing. I went to the dealership lot this evening & looked under ever used jeep from 2018 up & EVERY ONE OF THEM have oil at the bell housing. I smell a class action lawsuit!!
I might be blind; but I dont see the drop box link
