I did this twice. First time it was still cutting in and out, worked like 2 days. Took apart and did the process again but this time did a few more passes and a little bit closer to the solder points on the small chip. Made up a sleeve for a heat gun with sheet metal and 1/4” soft copper tube for more direct heat. Worked again then Cut out again yesterday and then today it works – go figure. If it fails again I will just purchase an upgrade radio for like $120 on Amazon. Lol
I have the same radio in my Ram and I’m having issues. Sometimes the display doesn’t come on which didn’t bother me the first few times since the buttons/knobs would still work. But now everyday the display or display and buttons will not function. I banged with my fist on the dash and little around the radio but it wouldn’t do anything. The only thing that “works” is jamming on the power knob a few times and that allows the buttons to function but display never turns on with that.
Usually once I drive around a bit and turning the truck off/on throughout the day it functions normally. If you have an opinion or suggestion it would be much appreciated. Also, is there any resources you can share with me that will tell me what’s what on the radio circuit board? Thanks.
Wow. I didn't know people were interested in fixing factory stereo's. That thing isn't worth 20 dollars. You can easily replace it with a brand new 50 dollar touch screen stereo. Nobody uses CD's anymore either. There are wiring adapters that plug into your factory wiring harness. There's dash install kits that let you mount the new stereo if it's different in size.
