I think that light is on all the time. Try disconnecting the fuse that feeds it to see if the battery still goes dead. Here is a test to see if there too much of a draw on the battery after the key is turned off.
1. Check the amperage draw by putting an ammeter in series with the battery negative cable.
2. Install a jumper in parallel. Let the vehicle sit this way for 45 minutes, then remove the jumper and read the draw in amperage.
3. Up to 50 milliamp is normal.
Well, I’ve got an issue with the ignition switch in an 1996 Jeep Cherokee. The green light that surrounds the switch does not shut down never. Even with all doors closed and locked, the green light is still working and draining the battery. What can I do to fix it?
I ignition switch suppose to be exact fit for my 95 Cherokee Sport. Switch fits fine but the key cylinder does not. I can move it to start it but it will come out. In addition, the thumb button on the gear shift wont press in to put it in gear. Never did this. I assume something to do with ignition switch or key cylinder not properly fitting???

My 95 Cherokee Sport was starting and then suddenly stalling after only seconds. Went thru everything, changed battery cables, terminals, ground wires.. Not a waste of time exactly as they were corroded anyway. But!!! Problem was ignition switch! My Jeep guru friend figured it out. I thought I was gonna have to take the whole steering column off. This is the best step by step repair I have seen ever. Thanks.
3. Finally test terminal 85, in park or neutral a ground should be present. Check the neutral safety switch operation.
It is common for the switch to cause this issue on your vehicle, but be sure to test it first!

1. Test the starter relay socket terminal 86 for Battery + with the ignition switch in the cranking position. If it is not present at the ignition switch, if the Pink/Black wire has Battery + but the Yellow wire does not in the cranking position, the ignition switch is defective. Also check fuse #31 in the junction block.
2. Next, at the starter relay, check terminal 30 for battery + voltage and then jumper it to terminal 87. The motor should turn over. If not, check the starter motor.
I have an 04 Jeep GC SE and all the lights come on but it will not start..never had an issue before..it wont even crank…thru research I believe it may be the ignition switch and would like to see what you think given the provided symptoms. The starter is not making noise or being engaged and it has sat for over 24 hours and still no change..could this be the issue w/ my car?

Hi there. I am writing from Greece. Congratulations for your video. Can you tell me witch is the exact part list number for the ignition switch for a jeep cherokee 4,0Lt 1996 model? As I can see, on the destroyed switch (someone tried to steal the car) there are these numbers. 4326 6 22 and 32199 on the switch and 380854AAI on the cylinder. It seems to be exactly like the one on your video but I see that you mention different code numbers. Thanks in advance.

Many Thanks !! Worked on my 94′ JGC ……. bit of a problem …… small piece of pot metal had broken off from the original and was causing problem of fit …… once cleared, it all went as you said ……… God Bless !

If they bent it, it is probably disconnect from the activator I talked about. It sounds like the switch will need to be replaced like you said. If you send me a letter through my channel, I will reply with my personal e-mail. I would like to take a look at it anyways.

no, they were not the brightest bulb in the bunch, they couldn’t get the switch out they tried to bend it up and just left it, i bent it back down it will need to be replaced, i can email you a pic of it
I am going to assume you start it with a screw driver now. If this is the case the ignition switch is out and destroyed. Take a look at the ignition switch in the video. Notice the small pin where it fits into the sliding sleeve on the column. When that pin moves it moves that sleeve and unlocks the transmission.

It sounds like you will need an ignition switch and lock cylinder replacement, just like the one in the video. You can get a tamper proof torx bit from most part stores, you will need them.
