Gregg Schoof says:

The Chrysler 200 banging sound is NOT the bearing. They changed mine too
but the problem did not go away until the steering gear was replaced. I
worked with a rep in the Chrysler President’s office and a team of
engineers in Detroit. They were very helpful. This issue is driving a lot
of people crazy. Finally, after the steering gear was replaced, the
problem stopped instantly.

Gregg Schoof says:

I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 Limited. I got Chrysler in Detroit involved in
this issue of loud banging in left front end. Sounded like the bottom was
falling out. Turns out it is a steering gear. Once replaced the car has
been fine. It has also needed a new hood due to rusting, an ABS unit and a
water pump. Very sad. Does anyone at Chrysler focus on quality control?
If so, they must be asleep.

David Wood says:

Update: Both left and right strut have been changed. Both control arms too.
This is NOT a support bearing; they have been changed. As has the steering
shaft. Then engine mounts re-torqued. Top of strut bearing has been
lubricated. This is an issue you can feel and hear; surprisingly, noise
does NOT happen on a road with a convex surface; only on flat surfaces.
4-wheel alignment has been done twice. Problem still remains. Two plus
weeks before a Chrysler tech can come out to check it!

Greg Fox says:

My wife’s 2012 just startyed this noise as well at around 25,000 miles.
Other than this, it has been a great car. More than I can say for my 2012
300 SRT8 which has spent about as much time in the shop as it has my
driveway

Rafael Rosales says:

David, tell to the dealer to change the bearing, it works, despite they fix
it my 200 V6 started to make a horrible engine noise when starts, ASAP the
fix it I will unfortunately sell the car

David Wood says:

Well, we are way more than 4 people. Mine started at 200 miles, now car has
10K. No explanation or fix. I enjoy the car otherwise, but between the
torque steer, and the loose feeling when driving, it has me cautious. Since
no one has a fix, that is making me think I should off-load this car asap.

Rafael Rosales says:

Tomorrow ill upload a video Amazing. Is the same noise and clunking

Rafael Rosales says:

Now we are 4, my 200 V6 now has a transmission problem. I’m very
disappointed

Rafael Rosales says:

This noise starts after driving for 30 to 40 min. I hope this can help u.
Greetings from Mexico

Rafael Rosales says:

I am pretty sure that I know what it is. I suffer this damn noise for
almost a a year the dealership change everything. Shockers suspension but
the real problem is the bearing. Try to change it.

Ahsar A.S. says:

Yea, thats what it is. Its happens couse factory does not put much lube in
them. I recomend you to remoove the rubber cover on joint and spray it with
wd40, then put some lube in rubber cover and put it back on joint.

Andy Rolf says:

Lower contorl arm or strush or your bushin to lower control arm , the ball
joint is no good control arm comes with the ball joint. Javier R. Thanks
Javier

Veronica, I sent my customer service manager the link to all 5 video clips,
and after reviewing it, I brought my car back in. They had the car for 3
days, and of course were not able to duplicate the noise. However, the
customer service manager said: “since we can’t duplicate the noise, we
can’t fix it”. So much for the Chrysler side of it. But now I’m counting on
all our other Youtube friends to help us out. If some knows, please comment
on this clip. Thanks!

Ahsar A.S. says:

Sounds like a ball joint without lube

Thanks Ahsar, appreciate your input.

Ahsar A.S. says:

Ball joints can make that noise to. That kind of noises hard to initiate
when car is on lift

Ahsar A.S. says:

There is a lot of reasons for that knocking noise, support bearing or
steering rack joint

Veronica Taylor says:

My car is doing the exact same thing. Just at 19k in miles and its a 2012.
This video describes it to perfection. So what did the dealership say after
you showed then the video?
