Pulley Piss Off 2 – Removing the Power Steering Pulley – Chevy 4.3L

This was my lame attempt at removing the power steering pulley. Bi-weekly “How To” # 46. Disclaimer: To the best of my knowledge this video is accurate. I am…

Like the idea! I imagine that would take out some of my frustrations but to
put it bluntly, I’m just too cheap to try it :<

corn dawgg says:

Hey Mr. MudRFunR you should do a video on how to replace an automatic
transmission on a 1993 Toyota Four Runner, I’ll supply the vehicle and
parts. =)

corn dawgg says:

Yeah my blue one is v6 and automatic and reverse is gone but got another
trans here waiting to get swaped out but to cold now so maybe in the spring.

Burncy The car guy says:

I hate those steering pump pulleys. Who ever had the idea of this pulley
setup is an idiot.

5chevygeoff says:

its really hard to see on a video, but the bolt at 2:13 of the video might
be to large a diameter.it could be pushing on the pulley instead of the
shaft.id try a small washer on the end of the shaft and see if it moves a
little, maybe theres a different bolt in the kit.last resort soak it with
releaseall{brand name hard to find but its the best}and heat it with a
bigger torch.

droidrazor873 says:

Try heating the center of the pully and taping it with a hammer might
loosen it up then try your puller, just an idea

MudRFunR says:

Tried tapping the bolt on the end of the tool and just snubbed the end. Had
to file the tip just to get the socket back on.

MudRFunR says:

This must be a cheap version of a real puller cause that’s all there is
just one half. (even shows just one side in the instructions)

Ace Romero says:

Well first of all; don’t smoke anything before you tackle any 10 minute job.

MudRFunR says:

I believe I called them dumbdumbs on my first Piss Off video but yeh,
idiots will do just fine!

Matt Forbes says:

I just had a power steering pulley piss off myself. Ended up taking a cut
off wheel to the hub. Think it it rust welded itself. I sheered off the
flange that you damaged as well. I had the removal tool with both halves
and a collar that goes around it. Even drowned it in wd-40 the day before.
Unfortunately this led to the purchase of a new pulley ($14) and I needed a
new pump anyway. I went a little deep with the cut off wheel and tore up
the shaft.

MudRFunR says:

Tranny troubles? I will help you out as long as I’m not doin all the work
for ya and getting you on video, working, would be priceless!

droidrazor873 says:

I got first coment!!

chris scott says:

who rely cares

droidrazor873 says:

What if you get it hotter on the center and tap it with a hammer, just an
idea

Bob Brians says:

Step one- Get blow torch two- obliterate pulley and throw as far as
possible while cursing three- get replacment pump/pulley at local pick a
part Works every single time, I promise. 🙂

MudRFunR says:

This is a back-burner project, so I haven’t went back to it yet. Just
needed a how to video for that Thursday and I thought this would be an easy
one…not. Any way what goes into the shaft is just a pin not a bolt. The
problem I was having is my puller was just breaking the metal part in the
center of the pulley where the puller hooks on to. Haven’t given up yet
cause I got lots of releaseall, and it is the best!

nostromo314 says:

I had the same problem few days ago and at the end I broke the pulley 😀

MudRFunR says:

Have you seen Pulley Piss Off 3 ??? I actually took 2 other pulleys off
successfully and this one still won’t budge.

MudRFunR says:

I realize (now) that there are better pullers out there and I regret buying
this one but I have successfully taken 3 pulleys off with this puller. This
one is seriously stuck. I’m just working on Pulley Pissoff #4.

biggrigg666 says:

Were is the other half of the puller just did the one on my 92 4.3 s10 4×4
and it came right off and i used two wrenches cuz i have no impact lol

MudRFunR says:

I might try that next but I don’t trust myself with a hammer too much. It’s
too easy to get carried away!
