I was able to do it without removing the steering box. I removed the small plastic hose holder and pushed the brake line down to get it out of the way and held it in place with a plastic tie. Then either a large or crescent or 1-5/16 on the steering box nut along with a 12″ long 2 x 4 and I hit it a few times with a 5 lb sledge. Broke loose. Then two large chisels on either side between the pitman arm and the steering box. Unbolt the steering box so you can raise it to replace pitman arm.

Thank you for the vid. I really love people like you who are nice enough to help guide me through things like this! Sears wanted $550 for this repair and an alignment. For a moog pitman and idler arm on amazon is $80. The guy at sears looked at me like I was crazy when i told him I would do this repair myself. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when I bring my truck back.
You are helping me save about $300 in labor. When your 18 and going to college- that can come in handy.

Great video and thanks for the helpful recommendations. What were those Chev engineers thinking when they designed the Blazer front end? The job looks a lot harder than it is at first, but after reviewing the video, not as bad.
