I have a 2005 chevy silverado v6. ac is cold as hell, however my heater
doesnt work, it blows air but never gets hot. the thermostat on the inside
of my truck shows that my engine is running at 140-160 degrees on a GOOD
day. would installing a new thermostat be the most logical first step?
anyone with advice pleace comment? thank you!!!

Thanks, I appreciate the video. So many different engines and looking for
info on the net one comes up with a bunch of different locations that house
thermostats and different types. This one makes it pretty clear and nice to
see it is where I hoped it would be ha ha!

ZipZapDIY says:

The engine temp seems cold should be around 180-200 or thereabouts, may or
may not be related to your heater issue. I’d replace the thermostat, it may
be stuck open and it should only cost a few dollars, so if your wrong.. not
too terrible. cont’d…

kwazadilla says:

apologies, this video clearly shows where it is, if you can’t tell where
the thermostat is from this video, you shouldn’t be working on the
thermostat. Thx

Thanks for this info……

Damn it accidentally hit enter. Hmmm radiator hose is connected to
thermostat housing.. I wonder where the thermostat could be….

Steve Rose says:

How much coolant needs to be removed to prevent a coolant splash when
removing the thermostat?

Kyle Hoskins says:

thank you ill probably replace my thermostat and go from there. one of the
hoses was cold while the other one was slightly warm!

ZipZapDIY says:

The no heat issue, could be…1. low coolant (not likely) 2. clogged heater
core (not likely on your age) 3. stuck or non functioning blend door. (most
likely) First thing to check is coolant level, then is coolant going into
the heater core? get the truck warmed up, look for the hoses that go into
the firewall, grab them and see if they are hot, if one is hot, one is
cold, likely clogged core, if both cold, water is not getting to it, if
both hot, blend door is prolly stuck in cold air mode.

kwazadilla says:

Not very much, maybe a half gallon.
