great video. needs better light though.

Jason P says:

Thanks! Wish the pitman arm was accessible on my 07 Express. It’s hiding up
under the front frame. 🙁

ChroniclyEvil says:

these things are a bitch to remove both me and my cusion had to remove one
off of my dads truck and it wouldnt budge…we ended up torching and
grinding it off

Louis Garcia says:

Nice great vid

TheLball says:

the book says some shit like ‘remove the steering gear’. did we just not
see that part?

Ard Arvin says:

Hey, do the wheels need to be hanging free to release the pitman from the
centerlink (the tapered nut)? If the car is on ramps, will the centerlink
still drop down when it releases?

Donna Engler says:

Good job on the video. I am glad I found your channel on here. I am a
female mechanic and every little bit helps. I need to go above and beyond
at work and prove myself worthy. Watching your videos is very educational.
Thank you for posting.

Mark Paskett says:

You sure make the pitman arm look easy. How about a vid about the idler arm
too…

Linda Smith says:

Hey U got off cheap my mechanic charged me the hourly rate plus charged me
twice the price for the part I guess because he had to order it. So make
sure U order your own parts so they dont mark up the part to double what it
would cost u to buy.

Beeroxin says:

ive got a pitman arm that just doesnt wanna come off. my impact only puts
out 210 ft-lbs of torque so im using a 3 ft cheater bar on the puller and
the somabitch wnt budge! thers some white stuff in the splines, im afraid
it could be locktite but the locktite ive used to repair threads and all
was clear and red. what can i do? ive got a propane torch i heated the
sucker up till i could smell the seals on the steering box burning but it
still wouldnt let up!

spelunkerd says:

Nice job, thanks for posting. I don’t have a Pitman arm tool but I do have
a generic puller, which I think would work OK. Newer vehicles use rack and
pinion so I’m not sure I would use a dedicated Pitman puller enough to
justify the small expense. Cool to see it in use.

Edgar H says:

great video, im replacing the steering gear box on my 80 caddilac coupe n i
already removed nut and washer and used puller to pull it off, my question
is do i need to remove the castle nut and break it loose from the center
link or can i swing it out of the way?

wardubo says:

imma be doing this in a couple days…again. had to order a better puller
after the the one I got from Harbor Freight broke on me.

Nick Cross says:

ok so one can i hammer it off and two how do i line it up with the old one

Larry Houtchens says:

Thanks so much for posting this. It helped to take the mystery out of this
job. I now have confidence to try it myself!

vmaxlimited says:

Maybe next time put a light on the project so we can see it.

rob retondo says:

Local shop wanted $250 to repair this bastard i got th part for $50 and did
it myself thanks for this video

Kevin Flanagan says:

Thanks for this video. Replacing a steering box on a 98 Grand Cherokee and
the pitman arm is being a PIA. Seeing this made me realize tomorrow I’m
breaking down and buying a pitman arm puller.

kowz4u says:

Nice TJ in the background. that is what I have. nice video.

jeanl3405 says:

chevy did things smart when they went back to Rack and pinion! then you
dont have to deal with this fucking pitman and idler shit that is always
wearing out!

GotAmmo? says:

does anyone know where i can get a drop pitman arm for a 1987 jeep cherokee?

autohowtovideos says:

@josh230motorcycl squeels and grinds in the front suspension could mean you
need a pitman arm but honestly based on that info it could be very tough to
say. I would be sure to put your truck on jack stands and check the ball
joints, tie rods, idler arm, as well it could be multiple things

solareagle2 says:

Thanks. Very useful information.. keep up the good work.

John Cobb says:

i have a 97 dodge ram 1500 sport, and my pitman arm is halfway
