1996 to 1998 Fullsize Chevy trucks, sometimes it is a crankshaft broke in half and some mistake it for a bad flex plate.Vortec 350s are well known for breaking crankshafts.I have seen a case of this, customer said it was a bad flex plate with a 1998 Chevy K1500 pickup. It was the crankshaft broke in half, back of the crankshaft did not turn with the front of the crankshaft after pulling the engine.Pry up the torque converter or you will break the pump gears before installing the torque bolts

Aaron Rome says:

I’ve got a 1996 Chevrolet 1500 pickup and I’ve just recently noticed a fairly prominent vibration at mid level rpm’s. It started after all new solenoids and valve+case side gaskets and separator plate replacement occurred. I did have a difficult 8mm bolt on the valve body that I needed to remove, so I hammered it into a 7mm and removed it. Could I have in essence, ‘knocked the flex plate in a off kilter orientation? It’s got 286k miles on it and I doubt the flexplate’s been changed since.

gunner jenkins says:

fly wheel is for manual transmissions. Flex plates are on automatics. Basically the same part but a lot of flywheels vary because they can be made out of billet steel, cast iron or aluminum and most flex plates are usually just a stamped piece of billet steel with a gear ring on it. Just so YOU know!

timmyodirtbikerider says:

Just so u know

timmyodirtbikerider says:

Thats a fly wheel not a flex plate just so I know

Cefalak says:

MechanicsMike says:

emailrick says:

SHAD0Wc0n says:

I have a few Q’s.

I have chunks out of mine along the teeth, How does this happen again?

And I dont have any of those fancy jacks, Do I need all of them?

Anyways great awesome video, Really helps!

DanTheManIOM says:

So these are the same steps you would take to swap out a transmission…right ?

cozmolives says:

not exactly sure but i want to say flywheel is manual, to a clutch, and flexplate is auto, to torque converter. please correct if im wrong

devon fowler says:

isnt that called a flywheel? thats what i thought it was

Lee4x4k5 says:

By the time you read this, you may be replacing your transfer case(208). It uses transmission fluid, not gear oil.

TheLinss says:

how to you get to the top bolts on the transmission

Chad Menke says:

Always remember…. Your gonna tear your shit up

chente9212 says:

FLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXIN

nikushim666 says:

Check your mounts, if your flex plate has cracks near the center, your engine or transmission spacing is out of alignment. That or its just a poor quality plate.

DonaldB163 says:

@Lukethebeast101 how did you know the flex plate was bad?

spidez8407 says:

wuts a whiz burger??

215rant says:

My truck I making this weird dinging sound, coming around the tranny, sounds like there’s a Rock in the exhaust. Could it be flex plate making that clicking/ dinging sounds?

Lukethebeast101 says:

Real easy to check, go under and take a look at the plate and see if you see any cracks even if their hairline cracks it will cause noise and will need to be replaced.

Travis Barcus says:

my blazer is starting to make a ticking noise by the torque converter, seems louder on the passenger side, you think it could be the flex plate?

cotyballs says:

Thumbs up

Lukethebeast101 says:

Naw, it’s more of a hobby for me. I plan on being a police officer for LAPD.

zxdr2 says:
