What if I dont have the key yo turn it! Would I be able to get the cylinder
out still. . . I lost my keys
It shouldn’t be too bad. We carry a replacement on on our website
1aauto.com Part Number: 1AZIS00014 if you would like to see what we have.
This one is for the column mounted shifter only.
I have a 2002 chevy venture. We believe the engine switch is the problem
because we you cut the car off, the air conditioner blower comes on and the
automatic lights. You have to jiggle the key to get it to go off. How
difficult is it to replace the actual switch?
@lildouzie100 You may need to have a locksmith take a blank and cut one for
you. They might be able to do this.
By changing out the lock cylinder, you will solve the issue. Over time the
teeth inside the switch wear down and they can no longer read the key
correctly so it does not release it after you turn it.
how do i take the ignition out if my key doesnt turn
Thank you for visiting our auto repair channel on YouTube. We currently do
not have a tutorial video on this particular repair. We’ll keep this in
mind, if we end up making this repair in the future. If you have a Chiltons
or a Haynes repair manual, it should show you how to remove it in the book.
@OutragousGaming It sounds like the tumbler may have broke. You could try
to replace the ignition on it. Hope this helps you out.
Hey Mike – Great video. I have a 99 Pontiac Montana and sometimes the key
gets stuck in the ignition. So far I’ve been able to get it out each time
by starting/stopping or turning the wheel or messing with the gear shift –
but I fear my luck will run out. Will changing the lock key cylinder solve
the problem? Thanks for posting these great videos.
Thanks for watching!
Thank for the video buddy
How would you do it to a 77 Chevy nova?
I need help with a 98 bravada.. Do you have any videos??
@TheKinfo23 We’ll keep this in mind if we make this repair in the future.
Thank you for visiting our auto repair website.
how to change the key ignition if you lose the key to the ignition
You could try to wiggle the key up and down while you turn the wheel to see
if it frees it up for you.
@TNredneck84 We show how to remove the ignition if your current one is
sticky and you have the key. I’m not aware of a away to remove it without
the key.
@infinitepain951 Thank you for checking out our YouTube videos. Have a
great day.
greetings hello a question .. how I can remove the headers of the seats in
1998 olsmobile silhoette. I would greatly appreciate it
We currently do not have a video that shows you how to do this if the
tumblers are broken. We’ll keep this request in mind in the event that we
need to make this type of repair in the future. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Hay Mike, fist, thanks for doing these vids. My roomates boyfriend has a
2000 chev s-10. The key cylinder wont turn, we tried both sides of the key,
wiggling it and all..The steering wheel is locked, it wiggles minutely. And
the shifter wont budge. Thanks again in advance for any tips or help you
can give…
@1aauto he says you cant get a code for GM models before 98 or something
like that. thats why they had to destroy it to get it out. is there not an
easier way if you cant get the code? it seems this way is pretty violent
and breaks things that probably shouldnt be broken….hope you can help!
i was in the same situation as you lost the key, and none of the others i
had made worked, so i took off the parts like 1aauto recommends, i pulled
the black plastic off the end of the switch, where your key goes in, then
took some vise grips on the end of the metal part and moved it back and
forth till it got free to to sin around, then used a small allen to push
the tab down, and it popped right out! THANKS A MILLION 1AAUTO, YOU SAVED
ME A CRAP LOAD OF TIME! 5 STARS TO YOU BROTHA!
I can’t get my key to turn forward to the on position. Can I still get the
key out?
@kandleguy87 You would need to somehow get the key to turn forward. If you
haven’t, try to wiggle the key up and down as you turn it forward. Also you
may want to make sure that the steering wheel is not locked in place. Hope
this helps you out.
It may be getting worn.
Wow, you guys really do a fantastic job on these videos. Thanks.
what would be the reason to replace they ignition key lock cylinder?
Hi I have a 2007 ford transit van. when key is in ignition the gauge goes
crazy and makes a funny sound . Also have to open door manually. Any
suggestions.
how would it work if your ignition was sabotaged?

Would this work with a 98 chevy lumina base model. 3.1L I have two ignition
cylinders hooked up and need to get it down to one
@LilWinn19 You may want to check the wiring to see if there’s a frayed wire.
Do a Chevy silverado .
I think I need to replace the lock cylinder in my 2001 Chevy Astro van. The
other day when I took the key out, the engine was still running.
very helpful video! It was very easy to do but im still having a problem..
i bought a brand new cylinder and installed it. the acc and on position
works fine but it wont start but when i put the old one back in the it
starts fine.. so today i went to the junk yard and found one with the key
still in it and installed it with the same results. no start… what you
think?
