This was great. Made me realize how easy it was to replace it. Thanks for the information!

1aauto says:

HI Michael, If you turn the heat or AC off and the noise goes away, it’s more than likely the blower motor that has gone bad. There’s usually only a couple of bolts that hold them in place. We carry new ones on our website with FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

I have a 94 GMC sierra. And everytime i start my truck, it makes this loud screeching/knocking noise under the glove department. and doesn’t stop until after i kill the truck. The air is cold. The fan blows. But the noise… Any ideas?

1aauto says:

If all of the speeds but high are dead, it will most likely be with the resistor and not the switch. Your best bet would be to test the switch at the resistor to see if you are getting power at each setting before replacing anything.

Megan Flanary says:

Why does your fan only work on high? Is it the switch? Mines doing the same!

Justin Runi says:

How come mine cant be in that easy of a spot >.> no mines gotta have one bolt in an unreachable place >.<

You should be able to apply some of the basic procedures shown in this video to your earlier model truck. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

OUTFITRIDERS says:

Is it about the same for a 92 Chevy truck also?

1aauto says:

HI Corbett, You may want to check the connection going to the blower motor to see if it’s loose, which might be causing this issue. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Corbett Harris says:

You’re welcome. Have a great day!

I could not turn my fan on above two clicks or it made a lot of noise. After finding the smallest of several small ratchet heads, I got the back screw off! 1/4″ on the head size of the ratchet makes a difference. Found a dead mouse in the blower wheel. Wondered what that smell was! It is nice and quiet now. Thanks for the video!

I appreciate the vid. My blower motor started making a gawd-awful noise today after visiting the carwash. I was afraid it would be a difficult and costly repair. Since my ’02 Tahoe didn’t have any of the lower covers anymore, I simply had to detach the cable and turn-and-pull. To my amazement, there was a 4″x6″ piece of ancient junk mail in the blower motor. Simply and quick fix this time! Thanks again!!!

klink708 says:

Thank you so much!!! I could not figure out how to get the fan out. I was about to make a major mistake…Trying to take out the black housing the fan attached too…. It ended up not being the fan after all. The fan only works on high. Heading back to the parts store….

Great video thanks for the help!!
I have a 2000 silverado which had a loud hum coming from the fan. I watched your video and had my fan removed in about 20 minutes. I found about 6 small live oak leaves caught in the baldes. I cleaned everything and removed the dirt caked on the blades, re-installed it and was glad to hear the hum was gone.
I figured there was a screen to keep leaves and debris out but I guess not.

Mike Copeland says:

How similar is this to a 96 Silverado?

1aauto says:

If the blower motors is what’s creating the noise, then it should solve the issue for you.

1aauto says:

You may want to check the actuator to see if it’s working correctly.

KeenanKelly says:

I have a 2001 gmc seirra 1500 and its making that loud humming noise underneath the glove box when i crank the AC up to 3, 4, and 5. By replacing the blower motor it will more than likely solve this problem?

Christopher S. says:

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500, on defrost only the passenger side works. Any suggestions?

1aauto says:

We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular repair. We’ll keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future.

nowthatscrazy says:

question; do you have any experience with timing chain engines?
im trying to replace head gasket on my ’92 Sierra, and i can’t get the chain back on..
It’s the N9C engine, if that helps.

1aauto says:

You may have a short at the end of the plug. You may want to insect the plug to see if it has melted. Sometimes a faulty blower motor or resistor can cause that plug end to heat up and melt. If this is the cause than you may want to change the blower motor too. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Matt Harris says:

I’m about to change my heater blower motor on my 2000 silverado tomorrow, but im concerned that it may not be the cause of my problem, see my heat was cutting in and out for about a week, a light kick under the glove box was providing temporary support, but one day i smelt burring plastic, so i put my head under the glove box to inspect the problem and i saw flames shooting out of something down there, i turned my heat off so my truck didnt light up, and i havent had heat sense. any ideas?
