Sooo this is a crazy question and now i’m sure of the answer and kicking
myself in the butt…. Does anyone have the 2.2 ecotec engine and have a
spring loaded oil filter lid??? I got my 06 Cobalt and changed it’s oil for
the first time to find out the oil filter is all smashed up and twisted….
Then there is a big spring that is right on the inside of the lid… It
isn’t attached but it fits… It makes it fairly difficult to put the oil
filter lid back on the threads initially though… I got 5 quarts of new
oil in and am wondering if that spring was some idiots add on to the car…
Every oil change I see doesn’t have a spring on it from what I see….
Help?

You missed the part where you drop the drain bolt into the catch pan. I
seem to do that every time.

WILL OIL DRIP OUT THE OIL FILTER HOUSING IF I ONLY DO/NEED CHANGE OIL
FILTER?

Thanks for this walk-through. The only problem I’ve had is that I don’t
have a freakin’ 1 1/4! My set only goes to 1 1/16!

Synthetic is my choice of oil. I have seen that synthetic oil will help
engines last longer. This Chevy has high mileage so I am concerned about
engine wear.

is the synthetic oil your choice? or is that what is recommended? thanks

Bryan Joyner says:

Using synthetic oil was my choice. Manufacturer only specifies using a
non-detergent 5w-30 oil.

Good vid. Chevy Cobalts have a strange set up for filters and light bulbs.
Good walk though. Thanks.
