Got Performance Issues at 40mph on chevy equinox 2008 Change spark plug wires

This is a first person perspective of how to change the spark plug wires on a 2008 chevy equinox. The camera may at times be a little shaky, but that is just…

Trudy Gavin says:

Or change the catalytic converter?

Trudy Gavin says:

I am having the same issues at 38 to 50 miles an hour…wi change the spark
plugs and it should work?

David Maestri says:

Mine is jerking between 38 and 50 mph and not pushing past 2000 rpm is that
what it was doing

Carmen Urzua says:

Thanks for posting this. I have no more warranty on my 2008 Equinox and I’m
having the same issue AGAIN! This will be the 3rd time I need to have them
fixed. I guess I gotta get underneath and do this myself 🙁

Misho719 says:

Change your cadalydic converter two

MattHumanPizza says:

no parts taken off. just got underneath it and reached through and around
all the parts underneath and felt where the spark plug holes were. really
couldn’t see anything, just felt around. The boots that go on the plugs had
a service bulletin on them for not staying on right, so make sure they make
some type of popping snapping sound or feeling when putting them back on.
Or just pull gently back to make sure they are on.

MsTexasgirl87 says:

I’m having the same issues with my car Matt so just to clarify once you
changed the spark plug wires did it continue to skip when accelerating?

MattHumanPizza says:

It sounds like the gears aren’t catching, your friend sounds like he is on
the right track with the transmission. If it is the transmission you should
get it changed for free since that’s a 100,000 mile part, of course if it
isn’t than the people looking at it might charge you for labor. If it just
revs and goes nowhere it’s probably in neutral even though you have it in
drive. Check all the basics first like battery, spark plugs, vacuum, fuel
leaks, electrical connections. good luck

MrCadillactruck05 says:

my 2006 equinox has problems starting up some times. It never has not
started just turns over a little longer then normal from time to time. Do
you have any idea what that could be? Also, I’m looking for a video on
changing the transmission filter and fluid do you know anyone that has one?

Aricu Nono says:

Great video…

oleg1981 says:

you don’t need to cowl under the car to change the wires and sparks. iv
changed them from the top. but the same. did not see any thing! just by the
fillings.

JHLImports68 says:

I use a small nail to easily open the clips that hold the wire…I also
changed all of them over the top of the engine.

MattHumanPizza says:

It sounds like you’re having a similar problem and it should apply to your
circumstance, the spark plug boots have been known to not seal all the way
on this vehicle. It could also be something else as well, but changing the
spark plugs and wires is one of the cheapest routes you can take, when
choosing new spark plugs, put back in the same kind or better quality. If
you know the check engine light code, do a google search on it and it
should narrow down your problem. good luck!!

ZombiesMVP says:

I’ve never ever changed my spark plug wires or spark plugs and I have
182,000 miles if it’s not broke don’t fix it

ZombiesMVP says:

I have 05 LT equinox which doesn’t matter equinox is equinox but still
never had any issues.

MrMladiciko says:

how did you change the 3 spark plugs in back of the engine did take any
parts of before changing them. i think i have the same problem with my 2007
pontic torrent awd they have the same engines as equinox.

MattHumanPizza says:

The longer than usual start up might just be the battery going bad. It
could just be colder weather affecting it. So many things can make that
happen. The transmission filter and fluid for that vehicle probably has no
youtube videos on it but there are great general videos on that job done by
ericthecarguy and scotty kilmer here on youtube.

MattHumanPizza says:

Yes, it fixed it. It’s been running good ever since. Hopefully if you
choose to change out the spark plug wires and/or the spark plugs, it will
fix yours too and not be something else.

rupyvids says:

@MrCadillactruck05 press and hold the gas pedal while you crank the engine.
Should fix this issue temporarily. Have not found a permanent solution.

Diamonddave63 says:

That’s typically a fuel pressure issue. An inline check valve sures that
problem. 2005 models with certain VIN numbers had faulty PCMs causing that
problem.

MattHumanPizza says:

Yes, this fixed the problem it was having. It’s been running good ever
since. Some quirks about this vehicle is sometimes when we turn over the
engine and start to drive it will make a very strange noise almost like
metal scraping on metal.. just for a split second. Sometimes when turning
over the engine and starting to drive the speakers will make a loud static
noise just for a split second.

FoodyTunes says:

Thanks for this video! This is definitely the problem with my Torrent

oleg1981 says:

no its not! i have the same and as soon as you will touch the gas pedal car
will start without a problem. iv checked everething. the nex thing that i
will do is clean throttle body. the 2005-2006 have the same throttle body
and EGR valve. the 2007+ have upgraded throttle body and EGR valve. the
problem can be the throttle body.

Austin Spykstra says:

I have issues with my 08 equinox. Every once in a while when i shift it out
of park and put it into drive and put my foot on the gas, it just revs and
doesn’t go anywhere. I thought that it was a vacuum leak, or bad shift
linkage, but one of my friends said that i may need a new transmission.
Please Help!!!

Aricu Nono says:

Hi Matt…. So did this fix your performance issues with the
transmissions… I just got an 05 and have 3 issues with the vehicle… 1
The Dex Cool.. 2 Flushed out gunky dex cool day or 2 later now my power
steering’s having issues, car sometimes jumps when put into drive.. not
always. Has any of this happened to you. And anyone else? Thanks,….

missmandym10 says:

Will this fix apply to a 2007 chevy equinox that is doing the same thing.
It has a little kick right at about 40mph. The check engine light has been
on, we took it to autozone for a diagnostic and the guy said maybe it’s a
vaccume leak?…
