DIY wheel hub bearing replacement: '01 Chevy S10

This procedure will apply to many vehicles that feature a bolt-on wheel hub/bearing assembly. Typically these can be replaced without special tools, unlike press-in style bearings.

What's the best way if I don't have a power gun?

For the GM wheel hubs no need for a slide hammer pretty much any hammer will work unless it's a tack hammer or something similar

My 06 Nissan Frontier is a 4X4, and when making a left turn in a parking lot either going forward, or backing up, I can hear what sounds like a slight moaning sound. Don't know for sure what 's causing it, but I do know the brake pads are original with 103,000 miles on the vehicle. I'm going to try your suggestion with all 4 wheels off the ground and locking one wheel at a time with the wheels being turned to the left to see if I can locate the noise. Hopefully, its the pads/rotor, or at the worse, the hub/bearing. I don't think its the half shaft's outside CV joint. In a straight line……no noise at all, only on left turns. Front tires are not showing any "excessive wear." Time and testing will reveal the problem. The truck's in Southern California, so I don't think there will be a "crusty's" problem. Thanks for that tip! Mike
