$50 part but definitely a full day of work to get that giant side cover off. Been there done that with my 03 Impala 4L60(?). And yes, the harness connectors and everything else will crumble the moment you touch them.
Most of the time it's the pressure control solenoid that goes bad, but anyone who's done this even once will understand why you'll want to do all the solenoids along with the sub harness if at all possible.
