your battery terminal. The GM anti-theft system kicks in, preventing your
car to start. To fix this, a majority of people have said to put your key
in the “on” position for 10 minutes. Then take the key out for 20 seconds,
and it should supposedly reset the car’s computer, allowing you to start it
up. My brother and I upgraded the radio and speakers(rear and front) in my
car(2003 Chevrolet Impala). This video helped us quite a bit with
installation. However, GM has the WORST, illogical anti-theft system placed
in this vehicle. My brother and I have spent 9+ hours working on my car. We
had to replace the battery which was dying and it still will not turn on. I
will post again, if we are able to resolve it. But for those who have yet
to follow this video. Save yourself hours of agony and forget about
removing the battery from it’s terminal.
That’s ALMOST all there is. The dash cluster, radio, etc are all connected
into the same harness for the security system. I am reading about all sorts
of issues. People cannot start their car after, gauges going nutty and all
that jazz. My cluster quit working all together. GM passkey is a pain in
the butt.
Are there any screws located below the AC/temp control unit which hold the
dash panel in place? I have an ’03 Impala LS with the console and I need
to replace the HVAC controller.
richpin im doing repairs on a 2002 impala, needs to have the rocker arm and
lifter checked? have a family mechanic whos going to do repairs but was
wondering if you would be able to post a video of what parts those are and
where they are located. thanks!
I am taking apart mine for a cluster repair… In your video the bottom
plastic piece underneath the steering wheel just popped off without any
trouble, I just broke a little black piece underneath by the trunk pop, how
did yours come out so easily? Now I’m afraid to pull and break anything
else, any suggestions?
That’s why they put the bench seat in this Impala. So you can slide all
over the place when removing the radio. No console hump in the middle to
slow you down. 🙂

breeze thanks to this video! There was one extra screw in the bottom left
of the long dash panel in my 2003 but otherwise identical!. First radio I
have ever put in , thanks again!

its possible, looks like it though, at 3:36. it is the button at the 2
o’clock position from the far left drivers vent. Same place as the hazard,
just the other side. still excellent video.
on cars with the column shifter you have to move it out of park so it’s out
of the way… if you have the bucket seats and floor shifter u can leave it
in park.
While not quite as involved, my 4Runner also has more panels to remove than
I think is necessary. My Saturn was great and my Mazda is very easy also.
So, GM is not the only one who likes to make it tough.

There are radios out there that need a security code put in when the power
is cut off from the radio.
I know those impala’s are not the easiest.
I wish a had one handy i would check it out.

i got my factory radio replaced..it worked out great..i love it!!!
These days i try to stay clear of working on Volkswagens.
What would you do if radio has a theft-deterrent system? Though I think
having to deal with all of those panels is enough of a deterrent.
Is the any way to replace the lights inside the radio? Mine only lights up
on the left side.
