Very helpful! I have to replace mine in my 2002 Chevy S-10 this morning.

Matt B says:

actually a heat shield not a dust shield. It helps dissipate the heat from
the exhaust parts above the starter. If you don’t reinstall that part your
solenoid will fail much sooner than it should.

Courtney Clark says:

how do you replace the solenoid?

I was unable to get my old starter out without removing the large cable
from the battery first. It just would not move forward far enough to come
out. I was able to do this by using a 12″ long 3/8″ drive extension with a
universal joint connector and a deep well 18mm socket coming in under the
exhaust manifold from the right front. I also removed that clip on shield
before trying to get to the cable connection. Hope this helps someone.

You should actually tell people where the starter is. When you do a fade
in, it takes where the starter is out of context. Thanks for the vid.

helpful video, but i kept waiting for that starter to roll down on your
head as you tried to film it lol.

blunosr says:

Sometimes it would catch and start, other times it was as if the battery
was dead, although the lights/radio,etc. worked. Then other times the
starter would whirr, but not catch.

Roger Clark says:

What was actually happening when you tried to start the motor before
changing the starter?
