Correct, we are in Florida, luckily we don’t have to deal with lots of the common heavy rust problems, although we do have issues with body-rust due to the salt in the air because we are next to the Ocean.

Djinantonek says:

Man! Your tank strap bolts just came right out. Mine are seized and the heads are rusted round. The tank straps rusted 1/2 way through as well. I’m betting you don’t live in the rust belt.

APDTY says:

Unfortunately I have no simple trick to fix that problem, if the fuel nuts going into the fuel filter are completely rusted, the only tricks are to try spraying them like you did, and then banging on the rusted nut will sometimes help free it. If that fails, unfortunately you likely have to replace that section of fuel line.

stadiumghost says:

Do you have any suggestions for breaking the bolts (seized) on the fuel filter as opposed to replacing the whole fuel line? I tried spraying it up and coming back to it later since you can’t use a torch. Have you come across this problem?

marshall smith says:

what about the filter on the bottom..? I saw one come out..

TheSilverSurfisher says:

Hi, Thanx so much for the vid.
…now if you’ve replaced the pump and the gauge reading is correct temporarily but still doesn’t stay accurate but still fluctuates a little bit (within 3 or 4 digits) mostly while at a stop or parked in idle, what can cause such??
(float arm, wire harness connections, sending unit contact points everything all fine)

APDTY says:

That depends greatly on your local going auto repair labor rate and what the mechanic charges. Unfortunately I can’t really give a good dollar estimate as to what they might charge.

FaisDoDo123 says:

Typically, how much would a mechanic charge to perform this installation?

SparkyWelder46 says:

thanx for making video very helpful

orangeluverman says:

I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I now feel confident enough to get this job done on my 2000 Chevy and saving myself several hundred dollars!

Logan Stone says:

yup! way easier!

castro cruz says:

I replaced the fuel pump of my 2001 gmc sierra and still running bad, i already put the scanner and it say that the fuel censor is bad, how the happened if the fuel pump in everything is new, is possible that the censor is not working or it may be something different?….thank you

mohammed bakhribh says:

great job.it’s a professional way to replace the fuel pump. i had the same problem and i changed only the small device the control pumping the fuel to the engine and cost me low price.that device response to start pumping it’s electronic device inside the pump.

Steve Hanson says:

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.

Ivan Rozales says:

Nice video I will be doing this next week with my dads truck. Although I will use the bed lift method. This is great to.

Jack Sparrow says:

Very thorough and Informative. Now I know what my mechanic will be doing.

Tommy Short says:

Thank you for info..I did it first time thanks to you..

APDTY says:

On this job, once we got the pump out, we show you why the gauge wasn’t working, the “fingers” that make contacts along the resistive strip are completely worn away (This can be seen at 13:31 in the video). Fuel system cleaner won’t help fix that problem. Also it was the original pump on a truck with over 100k miles,, these pumps don’t last forever so he wanted a whole new module so he wouldn’t be replacing it again soon when the pump itself died.

abram7117 says:

Are you replacing the fuel pump only because the gauge doesn’t work? I know people that have had that issue and used fuel system cleaner and cured the issue.

Gary Seymour says:

I just remove the bed bolts and jack up one side of bed on the tank side.

APDTY says:

the pump internally has a check valve to keep the fuel pressure up when the vehicle is off. you cannot service it by itself though, unfortunately replacement of the whole module is required to change it.

pr0230m says:

Wonderful Video… One question please. Is there a FUEL CHECK VALVE on or in this Pump? Have read on forums that may be pump or fuel check valve but cant find the check valve. 2000 GMC Sierra. THanks for your reply!

APDTY says:

You are correct, I should be wearing safety glasses. It’s a bad habit of mine.

Michael S says:

Why don’t you use safety glasses!

APDTY says:

I agree taking off the bed can be a lot easier. The main reason we did it this way is so that SUV owners (Yukon, suburban etc…) can see how to do it as well, it’s the same procedure.

Les Swift says:

you did it the hard way lift the truck box with a cherry picker remove two bolts on driver side of box. loosen two bolts on passenger side disconnect filler neck. now you can get at the pump with gas tank in the truck peace of cake.

randomnumber81 says:

I bought my pump (delphi) off amazon brand new for 180$. (for my 01 1500)

APDTY says:

It could be the fuel pump, Those are symptoms of low fuel pressure. But there are other issues that can cause those symptoms as well, such as the mass airflow meter. Do you have any DTC (Trouble Codes) stored in the computer?

wilcox1096 says:

I have a 99 GMC Sierra with the 6.0 engine, and replaced the fuel pump about 4 years ago. Now the truck takes 3 tries to start and I get a dieseling sound under the hood when I go up hill or try to pass a car. Could it be the fuel pump again?

poEJGP'KNWr says:

One of the best clearest mechanical videos ive seen. I willl be doibg this job tonight on my 03 seirra denali 6.0 l . Good job boys

APDTY says:

That sounds like the symptoms of a failed fuel level sending unit, so if the sending unit is built into your fuel pump module, then unfortunately it is probably time again. If you have the same truck that we had in this video, click the link below the video to find this same pump we used in the video,, for cheap. Thanks!
