Hey Chris,
I got brave and decided to replace the Water Pump in my 95 this past
Sunday. I got stuck on the last bolt – the one behind the pulleys and the
two vacuum lines. I took your advice and took a break. It’s now Monday
night and I’m still scratching my head…. There’s a vacuum line
connection right in front of it. I’m a bit leery about pushing the line up
to get in the bit on it. Are you pushing the bit on using an extension or
some other way? I’ve read posts on forums where people replace their water
pumps and no one really mentions that it is so difficult. In fact, hardly
anyone says anything about this bolt at all. I’ve got to be missing
something really obvious… Any ideas?

Is it the same concept for replacing my water pump on a 95 Buick road
master Lt1 engine?

fox says:

have you done a water pump on an ls1 2 or 3?

fox says:

MR chris i wish to thank you very much we have the same car i did the
waterpump by myself thanks to your video !!!!!!!!!!! so far no probs only
thing while i was in there i did hypertech 160 thermostat— man this video
helped me so much thank you you saved me about 500 bucks— i owe you some
beer— LOL Thanks again

ChrisFix says:

One of the main causes of the exhaust manifold glowing is a clogged cat.
How did your mechanic check the cat? Maybe there is excess carbon buildup
in your exhaust manifold and that is clogged? Does the car “miss” or
“knock”?

Ronald Gammell says:

I wish you would show how to fill the coolant once done. I am stressing
that a little bit.

Patti Moore says:

You forgot to mention ONE MAJOR STEP…I have a 95 Vette and followed your
video step by step..After I put the new water pump on..I couldn’t get it to
work..I watched another video…and there was the problem..The water pump
SHAFT came off with the OLD water pump..The person in the other video said
ONE IMPORTANT STEP…Don’t forget to take the shaft off of the old water
pump..I watched your video again, and could see the shaft that you forgot
to mention, so I had to do the complete job again.

ChrisFix says:

also, your timing may be off. If the opti was not installed correctly and
the timing mark on the gear that fits in the opti was not installed on the
correct mark, you can get those symptoms as well.

ChrisFix says:

Hahaha, thanks a lot man!

Justin Davis says:

@ Mr Vulcan. I also own a 1996 formula. Mine is white with t tops and
101,000 miles. I have had it for 2 years. I have been making some repairs
on it lately. But it is a fun car. The new crime rims on it updated the
look. People are surprised when I tell them it is a 1996. The video is
helpful thanks. It should make my job easier.

va mo says:

Do you know what could cause my 95 lt1 to idle ruff in gear at lights then
will stall some times I have new opti ,plugs ,wire, icm ’02 sensors and my
passenger side exhaust manifold will get redhot.

ChrisFix says:

Thanks! Let me know how it goes (and if you have any problems that you need
help with)

ChrisFix says:

hahaha thanks man!

ChrisFix says:

try a few things: one would be to take the vacuum line off the fuel
pressure regulator (you can check out my fuel pressure regulator video for
that one). Run it and see if it still misses. Make sure the vacuum line
doesnt smell like gas. The other thing to do is at night, take a spray
bottle filled with water and spray the spark plug wires and see if you see
little sparks. The car should be running as you do this. If you see sparks,
then you need new plugs and wires! Let me know if that helps!

Patti Moore says:

Yes…I didn’t know about the part, because I have never done any kind of
work on any car myself..but after watching your video, it seemed easy
enough so I thought I would give it a try..After I replaced the coupler,
and got all the wires hooked back up, the car runs GREAT…and best of
all…I know I saved hundreds of dollars too!!!..Thanks for the video..My
Vette is red also..you will see it when I change my pic..:)

hey good job !

“Little Red LT1 Corvette” Good video!

ChrisFix says:

@Feenyxxx95 Hey, from the factory it has had Dexcool and its GM recommended
to use dexcool… I have no problems at all… The problems happen when you
mix dexcool with the green stuff! Hope this helps!

ChrisFix says:

@rid3r28 no prob, hopefully it was useful!

ChrisFix says:

If the exhaust manifold is getting red hot I would say it is a clogged cat.
Do you have a check engine light on?

ChrisFix says:

No prob! Thanks for the comment!

ChrisFix says:

No prob!!! Im glad it helped you out!!! Its a good feeling when its all
done!!!

casanovaevren says:

everybody has to underrstand about cars and fix it in abd cos mechanics all
charge too much i have a camaro 94 they asked me 375 dolars and i decided
to do it myself thnx for the video

chubbychaser2000 says:

thanks dude , I’m taking my time , looks like I can get to wires just fine

ChrisFix says:

Yea, I think you are right… My buddy’s Vette had the same problem.

ChrisFix says:

well the only way to find out is to take the intake off and look around…
The bottom of the water pump will most likely tell you if it is the culprit
(the wheep hole leaks)… It could also be where the gasket and water-pump
meet… Check those areas and if you dont see anything it is probably
something else…

ChrisFix says:

@Andyatallah no prob, hoped it helped and thanks!

ChrisFix says:

It can be a few things. I would make sure your thermostat is working (did
you change it with the waterpump)? Your block could be clogged, your
radiator cap could be leaking, and/or your headgasket could be bad. You can
purchase a coolant system pressure tester for under $100 or take it to a
shop and have them test the system… See if you can get your radiator cap
tested for free… That would be my first step along with a thermostat.

ChrisFix says:

No problem… Take your time and if you have any questions, feel free to
post it up!

ChrisFix says:

Sorry you didnt realize (and I didnt say) that the coupler was needed to
engage the waterpump shaft to the cam… I added it in as an annotation…
At 7:03 you can clearly see the coupler on the shaft that connects the
cam… I assumed that you would recognize the coupler comes off and is
needed for the new waterpump but thanks for letting me know it is not so
obvious. Does my annotation clear it up?

ChrisFix says:

@orenkrief you just pull it off with your finger… It its stuck on there
spray some wd40 or liquid wrench and then try!

Ronald Gammell says:

Well I did it. Between the drivers side middle bolt and trying to scrape
old gasket off the block. It’s on. It’s not filled yet as 6 hrs is too much
for one day. I am a little stressed about the vacuum line on drivers side
that continues on top of block I can’t tell if it is in right place. The
pump did seat properly so I guess it is ok. Any comments would be
appreciated.
