Fixing Bad Catalytic Converters With Inefficiency Code P0420
I’m not sure what the code was for my car but my mechanic said it was a
weak or bad catalytic converter so he put a washer in between the catalytic
converter and the o2 sensor, or whatever that thing was that connects to
the converter, and the check engine light never came back on. He said it
slows it down which keeps the o2 sensor from being able to tell that there
is a problem with the converter which stops the check engine light from
coming on.
Is this the same as seafoaming a car? Pretty cool video
Is that help to pass machine test?
Hey scotty my friends car has the P0420 code. The problem is his stupid
lexus has 3 cats! Does the code indicate which one? If not, should we clean
the first one since it is the first and will get the brunt of the
emissions?
How long does it last? How many miles / years?
hey friend , my cattlitc converter started rattling so i drilled a bunch of
screws into it
, 20,000 miles or so later , im still enjoying the savings
My 96 civic has that code and it dies while driving. I called autozone and
they said its more likely the sensor!! Do you think I should do what you
done on your video or just replace the sensor??
hey scotty im a u.s i.g and i came home from AT and got an 2001 audi a6 it

Converter$98) (Walker Direct-Fit

Scotty whats a P0421 code?
If this will save me money and not hurt my car I’ll do it
I should’ve seen this video before replacing both the catalytic converters
in my ’02 Camry. $700!
IF YOU WANT TO RULE OUT O2 SENSOR PROBLEMS. SWAP 02 SENSORS RESET CODE AND
IF IT COMES BACK ON SAME BANK. CATALYTIC CONVERTER
This code can be thrown why a leak before the cat also. Check for an
exhaust leak before doing crazy with the cat.
Race pipe.
Best way to fix bad cat converter…….remove it…..they are overrated
I didn’t know it snowed in Texas lul.
just put it in a electric kiln for a few hours
Cool!!!
I had a bad converter from a 77′ Dodge van. I think once you understand how
they function the repair is not that hard.
Hey Scotty, what do you think about soaking it in vinegar? I soak all my
rusty tools and parts in it and it takes the rust off great. Perhaps there
is no rust inside the cat, but what are your thoughts on vinegar for this
task?
Will it work on my 2001 Jaguar S-type? I fear it will damage my fuel
system. My car burns premium fuel and the code is P0430 instead of P0420.
Someone just cleaned it with high-pressured air. It did remove the CEL but
the CEL went on again after about 50 miles drive.
Hey, Scotty. My wife has an 02 Lancer. The Service Engine Soon Light came
on, the car started running rough and there is a rotten egg smell coming
from the heat. The cars been running fine and out of nowhere at a stop
light it started shaking and running rough? I’ve heard this could be a
catalytic converter problem, spark plug problem, or battery issue. The car
isn’t overheating.
Blocked cats, Could they cause low fuel mileage, poor performance,
intermittent rough idle, and soft accelerator? But not have any smells or
glow?
Yikes so what do you say when the thinner eats the o rings out of the fuel
delivery system?
ok so how do you remove the cat?
HOOAH! Your videos are a great deal of help.
hey Mr Scotty nice video i notice in ur video is a acura tsx any ways i
have 2004 acura tsx and i got my checkengine light P0171 bank 1 some else
toll me it could be the fuelpump or the oxigen sensor or do i need to
clean catalytic Converter ???/ thanks by the way
Have you had any luck baking these converters in kilm’s or ovens? i would
think that the carbon would burn off before the platinum and palladium
melts right?
My cat is new oem part still have the code 03 s10
I’m thinking of buying an OBDII, are there any good ones that I could get
below $50
Ok so after taking off the cat , washing is , installing it back ,
resetting the system,
I went to get the Etest done. Some how i passed with 2 not ready ( Evap &
catalyst)
Lucky me. . .
BUT !! after 213 Clicks the engine light came and after checking it, the
cat code is back! So Scotty , i guess washing that thing just doesnt work.
I will have to replace it in the near future.
i’ve got a 95 jeep grand cherokee and it failed inspection due to carbon,
the check engine light is not on, so i’m not sure on what i need to do now
Hey Scotty I got a 2001 jetta VR6 it started slowing down when I would
accelerate and check engine light blinks then when I stop and idle it shuts
off checked coil packs ok could it be the converter?
Hey Scotty I got a 2003 GMC Envoy with a P0420 code on her with over 294000
km. Will your remedy work on my Envoy
what about P0430? And only a P0430 Code
Which brand lacquer thinner do you recommend? I looked it up but there are
so many. Thanks
Scotty what do you think of other videos saying your method does not work?
What kind of thinner you put in the tank and what is the other steps with
adding the thinner to the tank to do with it
You using posi quit brake pads thanks I will try it on my 2001 Camry
Hey Scotty what did you called the thing you poured into the gas tank to
clean the cat? I kinda heard something of “Lacre” don’t know what the rest
is all about.
Hi Scotty. I have been following all your videos since 2 years. I now have
a 2003 Camry 4 cylinder with the P0420 code. The catalytic converter in it
does not look like what you showed. But instead its a large piece with four
pipes that fit on the exhaust manifold and then merge into a catalytic
converter. I will try the thinner method for this. ALso if it doesnt work,
can I remove this huge piece and clean it up with laundry detergent?
