Bro Stone says:

Jason, check for other areas of concern first. Does it leak, check that
water pump, termostate, fast does it heat up, are both fans working etc. I
just replaced the water pump. The cars cooling system is very simple
however it must be a priority.

Juan Morales says:

I got lucky I have a 2000 deville with 249000 miles on it still runs strong

Bro Stone says:

Dont panic. Go through your entire cooling system check for leaks and the
water pump and tentioner. The 96 northstar is one of the better ones.

stick85251 says:

Had a 96 Concours for about 4 year. Sold it at 80,000 miles when the
transmission wouldn’t go it to 4th gear. $1200 was the estimate. Ran a
little hot when going up hills, otherwise a great car!

David James says:

Northstar was such an advanced engine. Look at this one from 2000. Notice
the coil packs directly on the spark plugs!! No ignition wires to leak a d
go bad. I just want to add that another cause of overheating is a clogged
purge line. At the top of that surge tank is another hose. Follow it back
to the engine block, and remove the hose, and the “bolt with a hole in it”.
That bolt sometimes gets plugged up with bits of gasket material, or globs
of stop leak someone might have added. Make sure there is coolant flow at
that hose. Great video. I have a 96 with 112k, and never had any problems
with it.

Cpcool3 says:

I have a 97 Seville STS, go figure, previous owner blew the engine, but not
to blame on the engine, its to blame on the owner not taking care of the
oil, or the coolant, or even to immediately stop when it begins to
overheat. Anyway, its been repaired by a GM Mech with some form of new
bolts to help it be more stable, 168,983 miles today, running just fine.
They aren’t really bad engines, they’re just ones that need to be
maintained.

Matthew Brooks says:

I just bought 1 having heating pulling and jerking problem any advice

Mikey Jaime says:

Wat about the 2001 deville mines overheating dont know why

Martin Prince says:

Thank for the video

Rick Massey says:

I have a 2000 DTS and overheating is a problem. I’ve had all of the issues
you mentioned checked and or replaced. So the final conclusion is head
gasket.

Erica Thomas says:

Well I didnt know what you just said not to buy one but I did its a 1999
Cadillac Seville and I am having overheating issues the water pump belt
broke and I cant figure out how to put it back on I got it at a used car
lot last year and it only has 90000 miles on it but I cant drive it cause
of that issue what should I do….sell it?

Bro Stone says:

Correction Head Bolts not header bolts.

Jean Castio says:

My 95 Cadillac Seville sls has a oil leak.. and the previous owner has told
me it’s the oil pan gasket but on really hot day I have smoke come from
under the hood the smoke comes from the driver side underneath the water
pump.. what do you think it could be it worrys me a lot the resevoir leaks
Outta the pressure tube you were talking about when it gets hot

Gary Fischer says:

Excellent info and great looking Caddy!

KFLY67 says:

Hi thanks for your info, I went to your website but it takes me to a
different site called Go daddy. I like to hear some good music. :/

John Brown says:

I love the style of the 1996 thanks for the info and its called an
expansion tank

Junk smasher says:

I’ve got a 1996 Cadillac DeVille with the 4.6 northstar and it seems like
it runs perfect , I bought it cheap and put a heater core and new brake
lines on it, i love the way it looks and rides but im scared to death of
the head gasket being blown, it leaks some coolant when you hold it at 3000
rpm and yesterday I drop to the store right around the corner from my house
and my check coolant signal came across the dash in like uh oh,

Erica Thomas says:

Well I got the water pump fixed but everyone is telling me I should sell it

Bro Stone says:

Check you error code message.

TECH BILL says:

your car looks great, looks like its right out of the showroom. The usual
GM recommended repair is a TIME SERT b/c what has happened is the head
bolts have pulled the threads out of the block. Time serts are a great
product, but not for this repair , they too will eventually pull the
threads too. There is a guy on you tube that replaces the bolts with studs
with beefy threads that go into the block. The studs come up through the
head. Sort of the same way as motorcycles. If some one wants to repair
using a Time sert for this repair ask what the warranty is. Usually they
will say no warranty and this is why.

lawrence baye says:

my 95 has a 4.9 no northstar….runs good as hell unlike the aluminum
northstar

dstarks80 says:

Thanks for the info. Ever since the HT4100 came out in 1982, Cadillac’s
with Cadillac built engines have been high maintenance and unreliable. This
includes any Northstar. If you desire a Cadillac as a daily driver, I
recommend an older Brougham or Fleetwood with the Olds or Chevy motors.
They are far more reliable and cheaper to maintain than any Northstar or HT
powered Cadillac. Modern Cadillac’s on the other hand are just good for
showing off, going out on dates and what not. Not good daily drivers. It’s
a shame because back in the 70’s Cadillac’s allowed you to have your cake
and eat it too. Not anymore. They are like BMW’s now.

jason griffin says:

Damn this video just fucked me up I got 98 Seville sts and it’s over
