CMS, how is this working so far? My mom has the same problem and headlight just went out as well so we need to take everything apart anyway. She got a quote of $2500 CDN to replace the whole unit so $5 sounds a lot more appetizing…
I'm thinking of putting some fish in mine since GM won't recall
Het CMFSr.You forgot the three 10mm bolts on the bottom and there are three 10mm holding each headlight in not two,LOL! I just took mine off yesterday… You also need 7mm socket too for the two upper fenderwell bolts one on each side in your tool inventory.By the way you should also seal the connections into the ballast. The ballast itself is somewhat waterproof all components are in a sticky gel under the plate with 4 screws pretty much 100% waterproof. The two connectors are the culprits and do not seal that good against moisture.Light bead of silicone around the two plugs and press them in and I may note not too much for ease of disassembly in the future. At that point after what you did and my suggestion with the two plugs you could drive that car underwater and everything else would short out except the headlights,LOLL! Hope this helps others too with the same problem …damn plastic junk………….Glenn in N.Y.
I thought air needed to flow thru that seal area to cool the HID bulb. That is what I read in an article explaining the issue with these headlights. It said the seal which allows air to flow out fails and allows moisture to flow in. Has this method worked for you or have you had any issues?
