“How do I jump start my car?” To start, you have to know where your battery
is located. You may even open the hood and NOT even see your battery. We
know, it’s one of those head scratching moments. That’s okay though.
Today’s cars will have other areas where the battery is being stored. Like
the trunk or in the case of this Buick Lucerne, under the back seat. Take a
look for yourself in our short video clip.
When attempting to “jump start a car” when the battery is in a remote
location, there are typically two jump posts located under the hood. Look
for large plastic covers (red for positive + and black for negative -) that
are placed over the top of the connector. these leads are directly tied
into the battery. Now take the positive red cable and attach it to the
positive post. Take the negative black cable and attach it to the negative
post (or in some cases, you might have to attach it to the engine block)
Now do the same with the host battery. Make sure both cars are in park or
neutral. Start the host vehicle first. Now try to start the receiving
vehicle. If it is all connected properly, it should start right away. If
not, check your “battery connectors” to make sure they are tight.
