Nick Stageberg says:

Sensor 2 is downstream, the one after the catalytic converter. Bank 1 is the driver’s side.

Danielle Gelb says:

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado. Getting code P0141 – O2S Heater Ckt Malfunction 1/2. How do I know which of the three O2sensors is the problem?

Nick Stageberg says:

For that code I would say it is much more likely it is the cat and not the sensor.

Nick Stageberg says:

It will always be on either side of the catalytic converter, the only difference is your converter may be in a slightly different location.

Stephen Garvey says:

Would you be kind enough to tell me where is the o2 sensor on a 2006 Buick Lucearn is it in the area of the buick rainier? I have had the code read by auto zone and they sold me a new one to replace the old one.

Mark W says:

I have PO420 code, how do i know if it is bad converter versus a bad o2 sensor?

Nick Stageberg says:

Sounds like good advice to me

Tennessee5006 says:

If anyone has a 2005 nissan altima, I recommend getting a 02 sensor crows foot socket for the upstream o2 sensor located on the front of the engine. It’s in a tight spot and close to the radiator. This crows foot socket was the only thing I could find that would get this sucker off as a wrench is too long since its so close to the radiator. It will take a little while to get it off due to the lack of room to move your ratchet but be patient. Good luck.

Nick Stageberg says:

Sensor 1 is the upstream sensor, it will be on the side of your catalytic converter closer to your engine. That code could indicate the sensor has failed, though it could also indicate a wiring fault, so be sure to check closely for any damage to the connector or wiring running to the sensor.

Nick Stageberg says:

Just depends on how easily you can get to the sensor and get it out. If it comes out easy then less than an hour, if it is hard to get to or really stuck in there then several hours.

Thermagicalwonders says:

Okay Nick, how long should it take to replace a 1997 Nissan Quest Sensor?

Pipa Pipon says:

Hi, where is the heated oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 1 located on a 2002 Renault laguna 1600, 16v . Thanks

Nick Massimilla says:

Hey Nick, how ya doing? I’m Nick too. I have a 2001 hyundai elantra and I got the code P0132 Oxygen sensor Bank 1 sensor 1 signal high. One, does that mean the sensor’s bad or is something else causing the sensor to read high? Two, where do you think this sensor would be located? Thanks a bunch for your help.

Nick Stageberg says:

A code scanner can clear the code, you can also disconnect your battery for ten minutes or so.

Catina Peavey says:

how do you clear the code after u replace the 02 sensor

Nick Stageberg says:

That is the sensor after the catalytic converter, you only have one bank.

ayrayann says:

Where is the o2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1 on a 2009 Ford f150

PIERRE HICKS says:

Where is the heated oxygen sensor bank 1 sensor 2 located on a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse gts

ltetobago says:

Thnks for responding, I got it fixed for free yesterday, $100 for the part..will go to emissions Th and register Sa..thnks

Nick Stageberg says:

You may or may not. I would suggest getting it replaced immediately if at all possible.

ltetobago says:

Sorry to add to the questions but I have an 03 Honda accrd Ex, my check eng light goes on and off every so often..went to emissions and the light came on, P0141 and P0402 were my fail results..I have a mechanic friend who will change the O2 sensor first to fix the problem..hopefully, but that’s next month..I nd to register now, can I have the codes cleared for now, will this pass emissions? I need to register this month but the car won’t be fixed until nxt mnth..thanks!!

Jahan Zeb says:

Very nice video on the subject. I just uploaded one video on Oxygen sensor diagnostic on my channel. I created such as video response here. Please allow to share knowledge.

Hello Nick!
Its me again, sorry to bother again. Im the guy with a 2002 chevy tahoe 5.3 , i had/(have) a bad catalityc converter,i just replaced bank 1
catt. P0420 code. My check engine light was off for about 8miles, then turned back on. Checked the code again and it says “po420 catt converter bank 1 below effiency..” any ideas wat could be wrong? I wouldnt want to waste +$250 on replacing the 2nd catt and might not be the problem, p.s its the right catt converter, bought at the shop

Nick Stageberg says:

Yikes! Given that it is a new engine I would look very hard for any kind of wiring fault that could be pointed to, but typically the heater circuit malfunction indicates a failed sensor.

tim baker says:

…. the light is back on and i got the reading P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) and cannot erase the codes or get rid of the light. what should i do? i have driven about 20 miles with my new lambda sensor before replaceing the engine,,, so i have to get it replaced again just to get rid of the light? or is this only due to my new engine? any help would be much appreciated thanks.

tim baker says:

hey man first of all great video! i am from UK and have a bit of a problem….ok i from the UK and have renault clio sport 182 cup (2004) i had my engine management light on for ages got it checked out and replaced the lambda sensor post cat, instantly my fuel was better and the light went out…. then after about 20 miles the light came back on and basically my cambelt broke and me and my dad replaced my engine recently.. the car is running fine and seems to be doing good mpg but…

Nick Stageberg says:

It’s always a good idea to disconnect your battery before doing involved maintenance on your car, and you can reset the check engine light using an OBDII code scanning tool.

Nick Stageberg says:

Your o2 sensor has probably failed or there is a fault in the wiring. It is probably unrelated to your hood.

Nick Stageberg says:

If you replace your catalytic converter that does not require the replacement of your o2 sensors as well.

Nick Stageberg says:

Great!

Deep Freezz says:

Thanks for the helpful info.. I’M READY TO TACKLE THE JOB NOW!!!

hated22s says:

* after i reset the check engine light, all the symptoms are gone, thanks in advance!

hated22s says:

Hey Nick, great video! I have a 2002 chevy tahoe 5.3, check engine light on. I cant remember the code from the top of my head all i know its the catalyser(pssngr side) going bad, there is only one code read, does that mean i need to replace both ho2’s also?
Symtoms: loss of hp (doesnt accelerate while steping on it), there are loud popping noices kind of like a motorcyle, smell of burning gas(no smoke though), and i started to notice the tips of my exhaust are getting darker, Thanks in ad

beanr246 says:

hey hows it going man, i recently got check engine and i scanned with the obd2 and it showed P0135 i have a 2001 honda civic lx …i just got a new hood but the latch broke so ivd had to tie down the hood with a 4 ft chain and was wondering if this could have caused this?? since it hangs a little

Nick Stageberg says:

Yes you need to replace both sensors. The first code may be a wiring issue or something other than the sensor, but it is probably the sensor. The second code is definitely the sensor.

ChenoCnR says:

Hey, I hope I can spare your time for just a little bit.
I own a ’00 Impala and I had 2 codes, P0134 (no activity on sensor 1), so I will just assume that the sensor is bad and needs replacing. There is also P0141 (heater circuit malfunction on sensor 2), which means the sensor after the cat is not heating up? Should I just replace both sensors? is the 2nd code something more than a sensor? Thanks in advance!

Nick Stageberg says:

Sounds like a potential MAF problem to me, I would suggest disconnecting your MAF and see if symptoms improve. Do you have any check engine lights? Those can also be symptoms of o2/cat problems as well.

Nick Stageberg says:

Depends on the car, what car do you have? A quick google will usually tell you as well.

TRiceNGravy says:

Hey Nick I have a 2003 bmw 325i and I have been doing research and I think the o2 sensor is the problem but im not sure. But here is my problem. Check engine light is on of course and I have a manual. Well when i get around 80 mph+ (on interstate of course) and my RPMs reach around 3.5 my car does not accelerate any more and if i go up a hill you can forget about it.. only way it will gain speed is if I go up a hill. Only way I fix the problem is pulller over and restarting my car

1LostSouls2 says:

How do I no which bank is 1 or 2

Nick Stageberg says:

A code scanning tool can clear the codes. Often if you disconnect the battery for ten minutes or so that can clear the codes as well.

arily83 says:

thanks for the advice….but how do you clear the codes. Thanks in advance.
