Had to replace inside door handle on Buick Rendezvous, this is how it turned out.

Kind of made me afraid to do it myself id probably fuck it up lol
To help anyone else that may possibly see this as I did, The rivet can be drilled out in a matter of seconds allowing removal of the handle. To reattach handle I used a self tapping sheet metal screw.

Thank you for posting this! I'm going to do the exact same thing today and this was the only video relating to a Buick Rendezvous (which I have) that I could find. With all due respect, my wife and I got a chuckle when you got frustrated with the post holding the handle on. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that reacts that way. 🙂 I grew up working on cars and I have never seen that type of attachment method before. The white part that you used to replace that post is called a "wall anchor." And that was a very good solution and probably how they should have built it to begin with. Thanks again!
