This time we fix a hard shift issue in a Buick LeSabre. We ended up replacing shift solenoids, which is a common problem for the cars that use the 3800 engines.

Thanks for posting this. A couple question if you have a sec..
1) We have an '03 with the 3800 and it sort of jerks as the trans is upshifting while driving. Is that what you mean by hard shift? Also, when parked, moving the column shifter into the gears is a bit more difficult than before. Is this likely related?
2) Do you believe a trans fluid flush would help?
Edit: just realized 1 was actually more than 1 question 🙂
I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan with the 3.4 PFI engine and the 4 speed 4T65E transmission. The van only has 89,000 and the transmission jerks during each shift through the gears. Is replacing 4 or 5 solenoids the cure? I’ll be fixing it myself. No help.
How long did it take?
My Buick is kachunky. Help
I dont like how you didn't take the time to show us beginners exactly how you took apart the vehicle and how to take off and replace the shift solenoid
why didn't you actually show how to put the solenoid on you show in the video to take the case off then just point to the new solenoids that are on? Doesnt real help much
I'm pretty much having the same issue with hard shifting. During stop and go that's when I experience the problem. Would you recommend changing the transmission solenoids?
I have a 2003 lesabre also.
It's not throwing any codes but when cold it shifts perfect. When the car gets to running temperature it only wants to shift at 3500-4000 rpm 1st to 2nd same from 2 to 3. Could this be bad selenoids? Something to do with the pressure?
You got my nerve up :). I am about to drop subframe. Does the steering shaft simply mate with the shaft coming from rack, or is there a bolt to be removed somewhere? Did you disconnect the exhaust pipe at manifold?
Which state you in? Got the same problem . Excellent video!
Thanks for the helpful video! When dropping sub frame, where do you support vehicle? I want to use jack stands. I usually support vehicle by the sub frame (with additional steel) where lower control arm attaches.
Who knew it was that simple
what should a honest mechanic charge for this?
I have a 2000 Buick Lesabre that shifts really hard when putting in reverse but when vehicle fully warms up it wont do it. Could it possibly be my motor mounts?
I recommend watching with the sound off… the music (?) is like fingernails on a chalk board.
I have a 2002 regal LS it started having trouble shifting into 2nd when at oper temp but other shifts were normal 2-3,3-4 no slippage anywhere So I changed the 1-2 shift solenoid filter and fluid . NO change . Now it wont shift into 2nd it will hang between 1st and 2nd if I go fast enough in 1st or go into 2nd for an instance but goes back to 1st or hangs between 1st and 2nd almost instantly any ideas?
I have a 2006 Buick lacrosse. After awhile of drivin it shift a lil rough. Now if i pull over and turn car off and restart it everything goes back to normal. Any ideas of what cpuld be wrong?
Heck with all that..ill drive it the way it is
Hate the "music", love the video…
I have 132xxx miles… mine shifted hard and was slipping n goes completely out… I shut it off. Then start it back up go back Into gear and it goes alil further them goes completely out again.. what would that be
can this be done without emptying the oil.?
Nice Cadillac rims man. I bought the same rims brand new many years ago for my 1988 Eldorado. I'm here because of the hard shifting of my 2005 Grand Prix GT.
I’ve got an ‘02 Lesabre 170,000 miles, I have to warm my car up for 30 minutes for the car to shift gear, I changed the transmission fluid now it only goes forward when the car has been running for a while , I stopped at the gas station to get some gas and it didn’t want do drive forward only in reverse , should I get rid of it ?
