7/8 = 22mm six(6) point deep socket with a 1/2 drive. beware of the ABS(anti-lock brake) sensor and its wire. you can purchase LOADED STRUT from the parts store save you all this work, but if you limited on funds, then get busy. 🙂

What size socket for the strut nuts for the bottom 2?

When replacing struts, is it a good idea to go with aftermarket struts as opposed to OEM struts?

Sometime. I would have a friend sit behind the driver steering wheel. Once i disconnect the dog-bones,with the vehicle still in PARK (trans selector) .I would would rock the vehicle back a forth from the rad support.NOTICE how the whole drive line with engine will tilt froward(car push backward) and backward(car pull forward). Once The engine roll forward to touch the fan shroud,Have the friend lock the E-brake instantly so the engine stay tilted forward.to make spark plug removal a breeze. 🙂

I just remove the bolt for the dog bone and roll the engine forward with a pry bar and then put the bolt back in on the second hole on the dog bone. I know not all cars have the second hole, but most GM’s do.

Did everything as described here and worked like a charm on my Park Avenue this afternoon. Thanks!

SteveXnycperformance says:

the trick to getting the three rear cylinder 2,4 and 6 spark out,is to remove the dog-bone mount above the radiator support. while the car is still in PARK, have someone seat behind wheel to apply the brake when you rock/roll the car back and forth, till the engine move forward enough to apply the e-brake to hold the engine in a forward position for plenty of room for removing the spark plug.the application of the e-bake must be precise @ the moment the front VC touch the cooling fans.
