1998 Buick Park Ave Magnet Fuel Gauge Fix

1998 Buick Park Ave Magnet Fuel Gauge Fix

The magnet I purchased was a bit too small and it took me much longer than it should. I recommend getting one that is a bit bigger and more powerful remember…

Well it should work I would use the end of the bar if that dont work try tilting it a bit. Just be sure your key is in the off position and only use as much of the magnet you need to make it work. If you have more then one you can always stack them to get more power. Let me know how it goes. Thanks

Can I use a 1 x 1/4 x 1/4 inch Bar N48

firehawk71 says:

Glad I could help. Thanks for the comment. I bought a bigger magnet I highly recommend it is a 1″ x 1″ x 1/4″ Neo that I used this last time swung it back in about 3 seconds! I have owned the car for 7 years and have had this happen 3 times. The video here was my first fix as you can see my magnet was to small but it still makes for a VERY powerful fridge magnet! LOL

Sent this to my dad who is getting ready to from MI to FL and was prepared to take his dash apart to fix it. Thanks for the great tip.

Thank You Firehawk

Sweeeeeeet!
Worked perfectly. Your the Man! Thanks.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE OUT THE WHOLE DASH!!! THANKS AGAIN

Thank you this trick worked great on my 98 park avenue ultra. Thanks again!!!

Doug Knol says:

this worked great!- w/o fuel gauge & odometer (it’s not displayed) it was kind of exciting to drive; I used magnet from the fish tank and it took 10 seconds to reset!

(Sorry. I was typing with my phone)
In my case, it was a DEAD Battery. and the dealership wanted $300 to fix it, when i just made walmart auto department pay for it.

What i DO notice now is the gauge will go from E to Full, then back where its suppose to be on its own…

firehawk71 says:

It should work and the more powerful magnet you can get the better. This video was my first try and I had ordered this magnet in the video from a magnet store but you really need one about twice this size. I now have one that is a 1″ x 1″ x 1/4″ for the same price about 10.00 and now I can swing the gauge back in just a few seconds. Make sure your key is in the off position and only put the magnet as close as necessary as they are VERY powerful. Good luck and let me know how it works.

The common thing I hear is this always has something to do with the battery. It seems it can happen by just unhooking or replacing the battery or if your battery has a low charge. This was my case a low charged battery.

Will definitely be trying this on my Buick. will let you all know if it works. Hoping its a quick permanent fix 🙂

batmanlooksgood says:

Idiots at walmart did this during replacing a dead battery. Buick deer

This works – Went to Home Depot, bought the super magnet, part 07580 for $9 something – worked instantaneously. I initially put saran wrap over the window to protect it. With the magnet that I bought it has a smooth rubber backing so no damage or scratching to the instrument window – didn’t need saran wrap! I’m sending this easy fix to our mechanic. Before this he wanted to take the panel off and get into the instrument panel too….for around $1,000 if memory serves me correctly…..

firehawk71 says:

sounds like its happened before and someone made the mistake of drilling the hole which ruins your plastic cover

firehawk71 says:

your welcome..I have a bigger magnent now 1x1x1/2″ I keep handy just in case. These Buicks always are pulling juice even when not driving. But some say the real fix is to replace the fuel sender. I have had to do it again once with the bigger magnet flipped it right around. BUT make sure you remember to turn the key in off position. These magnets are VERY strong.

MrPlayed says:

Thank you! This has been annoying me and had me scared to drive far. I was ready to just drill a hole in it and fix it myself lol

firehawk71 says:

I agree with you the guys at Buick prob just have a magnet in there tool box and its a easy 10 second fix but make it out like its a big deal! Dealers here charge 75 bucks just to pull the car in there garage. They now call there mechanics specialist. what a joke

adolfh59 says:

Thank You – If I remember correctly (AND I DO ) Jackasses at buick charged me $75 to do this – fix a problem that should NEVER happen to begin with

I have a 99 park ave and the battery died which flipped my gauges. Luckily theres a tiny hole next to the fuel gauge and i just stuck a paper clip in it and flipped it around only took about 20 seconds to do.

Tyree Small says:

Worked like a charm, thanks!!! I brought a magnet tray from advance auto for 6.99. The gauge flipped around in about a minute.

firehawk71 says:

Glad to hear….Yes when I made this video I had purchased that little neo magnet thinking it would be strong enough. It did work as you see but I had to work with it for about 5 minutes..Thats why there is that edit in there and the tap tap..I since ordered a much stronger mag and now it will flip around in about 3 seconds..Strong magnet is the key. Thanks for the feedback

hkreinke says:

Thanks! Great video, It wasn’t working so great with just one magnet, but when I used 3 stacked on top of each other, I was able to flip the gauge back to the right side. 🙂

Demarcus Holmes says:

i thank you so much for your video! This really does work

firehawk71 says:

Your very welcome. I am glad when I hear that my little video has helped someone. Remember you most likely have a bad fuel sensor that is the cause. But mine has done this now a total of 3 times and what triggers it is a low battery combined with a bad fuel sensor. But buying a 11.00 magnet is a lot cheaper to get you by. I bought a 1″ x 1″ x 1/4″ Neo magnet and it swung around in about 3 seconds. Its my new best tool for the buick! LOL

Penny Souhrada says:

Thank you so much! You saved me hundreds of dollars.
