ZF 6HP19 Mechatronics Sleeves & Solenoid Replacement – E90 BMW 335i DIY

ZF 6HP19 Mechatronics Sleeves & Solenoid Replacement – E90 BMW 335i DIY

Check out https://www.oembimmerparts.com to get your parts to repair your ZF 6HP19 transmission!

The ZF 6HP19 transmission has it’s common problems just like any other unit, the main one being that the mechatronics sleeves tend to crack and need to be replaced at some point. When this happens, you’ll likely get harsh downshifts from 2nd to 1st. You could also get gear monitoring codes such as:

4F8D: EGS: Ratio Monitoring, Gearshift 5-4

Sometimes changing the sleeves can fix this error, other times the solenoids need to be changed. In this video I will do both.

WARNING: This transmission takes special fluid. Do not use the red ATF. The proper fluid is gold. Only use the ZF Lifeguard 6 or the Febi 34608!

Mario Cortes says:

Awesome video and this is exactly the trans I have but in an 09 X5 3.0i. I couldn't find a video on this trans it was driving me crazy.

nando says:

hi there! im planning to do this to mt car as well and i noticed you said not to use red AFT the brand I chose to go with is liquid molly 1800 AFT that is gold not red and purchased from fcp euro… the reviews say its great just wondering your opinion since i thought this one in particular would still be good thanks!

II II says:

To remove any mechatronics on any BMW do you have to disconnect the battery?

Slurr says:

has anyone ever told you that you could be dana white's stunt double

Adam R says:

Did the solenoids solve the slow reverse engagement? I'm experiencing this after it is warmed up. Engages quickly when cold.

Drifter says:

Man thanks for the video
Did you drain the torque converter too
I'm about to do mine

Vman358 says:

I didn't see where you shift through rev and drive on stands for 30 sec thenbone final top off.

G Kab says:

I’m terrified to do this. My X5 throws an engine light when I sneeze.

Felix Albano says:

Superb video and narration. Thanks. I learned a lot.

Bashstaythrowed says:

On average how many hours labor would this take ?

Documentary Hub says:

I'm getting similar symptoms. Except my fault code says EGS: Ratio Monitoring Gearshift 1-2
Do you recon replacing solenoid valves will fix the issue?

doncorleon9 says:

Subbed in a heartbeat.

Vinny says:

Really appreciate the video. I was feeling really confident about doing this repair until you got to the part with resetting the adaptations. Where can I get more details on that? I understood the comment about the software, but not sure if that is PC software or something for a scan tool? Also, what cable is needed and what does it plug into?

Mr.Cryptycoon says:

Good morning, So I just watched your video about cables for INPA and BMW Scanner1.4. I see you put up the link to purchase the cable for INPA. Does the cable come with the INPA software as well? In the description, I saw that there was a CD in the package for cable on Amazon. Is that the INPA software?

Chuck Norton says:

Hey man! Love your YouTube channel. Just bought a ‘09 750iL and it’s having some issues shifting into D and R when it’s hot. It’ll pop into park and not want to go into gear. It’ll also take a few secs to get into gear as well, like the symptom you were having. Reving a small amount sometimes helps but it will thud into gear which isn’t a good sound. Definitely been trying to avoid that. It’s a zf 6speed transmission. Watching some of your videos and from what I’ve gathered, it may be the valve solenoids. I plan on servicing the the trans, solenoids, and sleeves, plugs etc. Does this sound like the right route to take? Thank you!

6hp28 Egs electric control of the transmission selenoid valve 2. Can you help me?

JosephusXIX says:

Great complete tutorial on this topic. Thanks for this. It's surprising that 7+ liters of transmission fluid drained out; it looked like only 1 or 2 liters drained out.

Miko Poder says:

getting 4E86 code … solenoid Valve 3 so which solenoid is this ? can someone point out with finger to exact solenoid which needs to be replaced ? …also having A0b6 selector lever interloc … and stuck in park.. does that have anything to do with the valve solenoid error ?

David H says:

Excellent video. Very clear instructions. Great audio and video quality.
I recommend watching other videos to capture a couple missed points, one being the shift sequence during the second fill (1st, 2nd, Rev, etc (not necessarily in this order).

Robert K says:

Resetting adaptations, without replacing solenoids, can absolutely mess things up. Don't do that.

Praj P says:

after resetting adaptation did you have to do a relearn process or just drive and enjoy the car?
